Hey guys,

so I got this item.. actually, I think I have 4 of em.. (item on left, I know the one on the right is just a common "hold down" for a sickle bar)

I have asked everyone, and I get "I don't know, never seen one like it"..

I believe it is supposed to be a hold down.. has SLC-370 stamped on it.. It came in a box full of sections I bought at a auction.. on the box everything came in (display type carton for the sickle sections) it said on the front/sides "Try the new adjustable SIC-L-CLIP" (or something very close to that, I tossed the chewed up box not even thinking..)

From what I can tell, the bolt slots line up pretty close with the conventional clip, has a "step" or "rise" that gos over the sections very similar to conventional.. Has a "plastic like" block on the end of the "clip".. We just can't figure out what the "lever" like deal is, or would do for that matter.. Hopefully the lever deal is visible enough to make it out..

Can anyone tell me for sure what it is, and how it works??

Thanks,

Brad

i have been told the hi rise hold down clamps will reduce trash covering the knife ,if you use them the entire width of cutter bar ,, thereby the blades are always clear,,

copuld it be just that?? A pivot (leverage) point for slipping a tool or screwdriver in to switch out the plastic blocks to "adjust" the clip tension?
Kinda like drum mowers that you either has the knives bolted in place or on a pin with a springsteel disc over the top to pry up with a tool and switch out the knives.....

Spring loaded hold down clips. I put them on my Ford 501 mower.Made a big difference.I think the lever on them is to hold the clip up when changing the sickle. The plastic piece is the wear plate. It lasts for quite a while.I don't think they're made anymore.I use the "Stern" clip now.You can google "Stern clip".

Just google SIC-L clip and it seems you can <a href="http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sickle-Sic-L-Clip-Sickle-Bars-Universal-/290572790382?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUA%26otn%3D5%26pmod%3D370496592854%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6571374074927444193">buy them new on eBay</a>

It is just what you think it is. It is an adjust able hold down for a mower sickle or for your combine. You can also buy a slightly different version from your Deere dealer. Theirs has the adjusting bolts on the back to tip the front end down.

The 'hi' rise clip is for the end of the cutter bar where the pitman connects to the bar. The head piece is often cast with a high ridge to give it extra strength, and will not work under a regular hold down clip, so a higher clearance is needed.

spring loaded hold down, i used them for years on my haybine header before finally spending the $$$ on a SCH cutter bar upgrade.

these hold downs work well, they seem to hold the knife down better on the guard andso give a cleaner cut than the old style hold downs.
