I have a chance to get some vinyl siding for my tractor shed for a reasonable dollar, but it is the wrong color of the rest of the building that I have. I was told that I could paint the vinyl to match. I,m afraid that the paint may not stick to the vinyl. Anybody ever try that? Thanks

Sherwin Williams "Vinyl Safe" paint is made for the job.

There is a special vinyl paint made for the job that works well. Comes in spray cans and would probably cost a fortune to do what you want. It's made more for changing the color of plastic car trim parts.

I assume body shops get some sort of special paint for adhering to plastic - since there's so much used in cars nowadays.

Yes, but you have to scrub it down first. Check the paint department at the home center for cleaner. Has to be scrubbed very well with an abrasive pad (scotch-brite) and then it helps to power wash with a wide nozzle (widest you have). Any latex paint can be used. I have done this a few times. Did my parents former house about 12 years ago and it still looks decent, at least from the road.

Just a FYI. There is a house I pass quite often with vinyl that has been painted. Looks good except they must have painted it on a hot day. All the overlaps show the old color, the vinyl expands alot.
Paint the sunny side when its cool

I never painted vinyl siding, but in 1997 I painted my vinyl shutters. I went to our local Sherwin Williams paint store and they recommended
their Super Latex exterior paint. They said to wash the shutters with warm soapy water and then rinse them. After they dried I spray painted them. Even after 15 years they still look nice. I paid around $25.00 for gallon of that paint in 1997. Last Fall I used the same paint and it was $21.00 for a quart of the same paint that I used to painting the door on my mini-barn. Hal

Here's a picture of that mini-barn with the painted door. I used the left over siding from the house to cover the barn. Hal
