Hey folks, anyone had thiers apart? Mine is a yámaha 250 beartracker. The hub has splines that match the axle. Had to get a used hub for mine and it looks fine but the splines are (to me) extremely thin. Maybe half (??) the depth of the ones on the axle. Anyone noticed this?

Is it a tapered spline, and how's the fit? I re-did one years ago, on a 3 wheeler honda, I replaced the hub with one from a burnt smaller kid's 4 wheeler. Can't remember exactly what I did, but I made it work!

my kawasaki bayou 220 was like that...i check that axle nut religously now to make sure its tite

They get thin when they get worn out. Keep some grease in them to fight rust. If the hub and axle get too bad and spin the splines, just weld the hub to the axle. You can"t hurt something already broken and if you need the whole thing apart someday you will need an axle and hub replacement then. BTDT on a Honda.
