Planted oats today , got a pesticide question

Today I planted a 15acre parcel of oats ,with plans to fit the field down after the oats are harvested and put in an alfalfa/timothy mix .My question is when I spray the oats with 2,4D later in the spring will the 2,4D still be around to affect the hay seeding?

Oats should themselves inhibit a lot of the weed growth. I planted mine a couple weeks back, drilled alfalfa right in at hte same time. Oats are the "nurse crop" for the alfalfa.

2,4-d is not soil persistent. If you read the label, it will tell you the safe planting interval, for legumes. From my experience, 30 days, or one real good drenching rain should be a sufficient wait.

Three weeks after spraying 2-4D you should be safe. If the oats get off to a good start and the stand is good you won't have a weed problem. Jim

plowed the field yesterday ,didn't have much vegation , so maybe if the oats do well i may get away without spraying the oats. I tried all different times of the year to do hay seeding, but have always done the best with mid august planting Thanks for your imput . Glenn

Will not be a problem. Here we plant oats and alfalfa in the spring then spray with 2-4 DB, which is in the 2-4D family but will not harm alfalfa and clover. If you are going to combine the oats spraying makes them much easier to combine.
