The post below about what we've been working on got me thinking.
I horse traded for this trailer about a year ago.
Great tractor hauler - bumper pull, 16' shop built, 12K lbs, tilt deck, 12V winch. The entire frame was hot dip galvanized when it was new.
The only thing I didn't like about it was it had those darned trailer house axles under it.
I couldn't afford new axles ($550 ea)but I kept looking for some used ones. Found a set of those but then needed wheels and tires too.
Kept looking on craigslist and 2 weeks ago found a set of four Chevy wheels, tires and hub caps.
So I made the switch this week.
I had to change out the wheel studs so that the hub caps would fit but now I have a good trailer with wheels that match my pickup. Stylin'!
And one spare tire to fit both vehicles.
I don't have the fenders on yet. That one is just sitting on 2x4s. Needs to go up another inch or so.

Nice work, UD.

You probably know that there are folks who will buy your no longer needed mobile home wheels/tires.

About 2 years ago, I bought a used (big) welder from a friend who gave me a good deal on it. The plan is to learn enough about welding that I can do most of my own farm/hobby repair work.

The welder is skid mounted, is not easily moved, and is taking up room in my pole barn. Not wishing to learn the art on this project, I have been looking for someone to build a custom trailer for it. Surprisingly, in nearly two years, I have not found anyone even willing to give me an estimate. One would think that there would be many welders looking for cash projects but this has not been my experience.

Dean,go gather some scrap iron and start practicing your welding!!In the time you've wasted waiting you could have learned to weld and built your own trailer.Get after it!

Now, there is something that makes me smile - a fella with a big welder looking for someone to weld up a trailer for the welder for him.

:)

I understand, but it still makes me smile.

Don"t know about where you live, but here in wv you can"t use those axles on a new built trailer and get the darn thing titled. Already run into that. Only use for them now is on an old farm trailer or you can replace one on and existing trailer that has em.

I agree with Delta Red on this one, Dean. You ain't never going to learn any younger! So jump in, take your time, and get your feet wet! Armand

Looks good UD. Be careful If you weld the brackets on that galvanized trailer.
