saw Lous post, and since we are getting a well needed rain here in nj,I had some time to go out in between the rain and take a few shots of the raised bed garden here in nj, Since my daughter is a vegetarian, I grow lots of lettuce ,swiss chard ,and spinach for her in the raised beds, I just picked the radishes this morning,I planted some potatoes in pa,and they were up,but I think they got nipped by frost sunday morning

Off to a good start there. Radishes are making my mouth water. Butttt,
what's with the decoys in that 1st pic? You askin for trouble?
The deer are my nemesis 'roumd here. I have a 8' fence to keep em out.

Looks like things are growing great. Nice garden.

I've often thought about some raised beds and will do someday at the new place once I get the layout of the place figured out.

I think I'm going to make a raised bed mainly for the cooking herbs and whatnots, but I want to make the bed walls tall enough to set on or at least not have to stoop over very much.

my nighbor put those deer there, she can see them from her back porch, We have a lot of deer here in nj too,so far the fence has worked, and we have aa dog too, maybe that scares them some

thats a good idea,we grow a garden patch too,but the raised beds are nice for the herbs, and stuff you want to do early, only thing you must water more, they do dry faster than a garden patch

I didn't consider that, but now that you mention it, makes sense.

I wish I had a supply of austin stones that were squared up and stackable to make some beds. Maybe line it with some 4 mil poly. hmmm

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with my raised beds close to our back porch were we "loaf". lol.

My girlfriend is most impressed with the stone gravel you have between the beds. Less mud tracked into the house, which apparently I need to be more mindful of.

Nice job Larry, You make it look easy, but I know different. I have a couple of raised beds for herbs and such. After all your from " The Garden State". Keep up the good work and really enjoy all your pictures. I use to live in central N.J.

Here in Central NY we started out with record breaking heat in March. We planted some cold hardy stuff in the garden. (peas, onions, the garlic last fall, and spuds.) The Asparaguse came up earlier than I have ever seen, but since we have been having snow squalls during the days, and hard frosts nights, we were only able to harvest one meal of asparagus. As you see in the pic., it grows a couple inches each day and gets frozen off at night. The spuds have been frost bit several times. The peas have been up for 3 weeks now, but not doing much of anything. We ended up having to water heavily two weeks ago, because the wind was turning the soil to dust. To top it off the robins and starlings are pulling the onion sets out of the ground. We normally do the bulk of our planting over Memorial Day weekend. We will just have to set back and see if our early planting payed off.
