Any ideas for where to get a nice US made folding pocketknife? Preferably something classic style with some wood inlay or something. Benchmade? Marbles?Wedding is Sept 1st. All 3 of my groomsmen are outdoorsy dudes and I think theyd love a quality knife as a thank you. Thinking 50 to 100 each. Would like to get em personalized with their initials. Any ideas? Also welcome to other gift suggestions. Thank you folks.

I got my groomsmen buck brand knives called the nobleman. They are a polished stainless steel. I had their name engraved on them. Got them at scheels and Cabelas. Knives 24.99, engraving 5 each at local shop. I think buck knives are made in the USA and have lifetime warranty too. Hope this helps!

My brother did that and I believe he purchased them at Gander Mountain. As mentioned, Scheels and Cabela's would also be good places to check.

(quoted from post at 10:25:40 05/03/12) Yeah, a nice Buck would be good too. Thanks.

If you are worried about made in USA, pay attention to the buck knives... They sold thier soul too....... Open the blade and see if it is china or US. Walmart knives'll most likely be china......

(quoted from post at 10:36:29 05/03/12) Duly noted. Thanks!

I think you can order buck directly from the factory, check thier website. I bought 3 at walmart a couple years ago , got them back over here just to open the blades and see china on them.... Went online and emailed buck.... Upshot, they sent me 3 US made knives and I sent them the china ones... They said that the discount chains mostly sold the china ones tho..... If you are thinking about anything from montana silversmiths, pay attention also..... Really just about anything that was US made has sold out.....

By all means, get them a Marbles or another brand that will appreciate in value. Buck is a fine knife. I carry one daily, but I treasure my Marble's knife. If you want them to actually use their knives, think twice about having them engraved.

There was a guy that I used to work with that hand made knives. I had 5 made total for my groomsman. All the guys liked them. Teak wood handles, 440c stainless steel. A very nice gift. Razor sharp too. Cost $40 each, 17 years ago.

My ex-wife found an advertizement in airplane seat back magazine for "Col. Littleton", (purveyor of fine accouterments to the gentleman trade) a single blade engraved with wooden handle lock-back knife of 3-3/4" long called FoxFire #5. Gen Office & Works, Lynnville, Tenn. (1-800-842-4075) Dunno what it cost. I stopped carrying it after 9-11 inspections started confiscating knives. I value it very much and it is eazy to sharpen and stays sharp.

I've always carried a knife since Cub Scouts in 3nd grade. The best I've had was 1-blade Kersaw with folding fingernail scissor. I currently carry 3-bladed Buck. I have a 12-blade Leatherman in my truck pocket. NOT impressed with red handled Swiss knives. Iff'n I don't have a knife in my left pocket to balance the keys in my right pocket, I walk funny. (grin) ........Dell

Saw on the news a few days ago where Buck has seen the error of their ways and is now trying to bring most or all of their manufacturing back to the U.S.

Best thing in knives since the Randall Fighting knife are the new "spring assisted" one blade lock back models. Open in a flash with one hand while the other hand holds the rope.
Gerber makes a great one, has the clip on it. The clip is the real deal on the knife it rides vertically in you pocket clipped inside to the pocket edge. I don't know how many times I have tapped my pocket and said. "Dang, I lost my knife" And it was hanging there . And it's a 7 inch knife open, 4" closed.
Satin finish on blade would look great engraved.

Son gave his groomsmen a combination pocket tool like a Leatherman. Don"t remember what the brand, but was a welcome gift.

Try getting in contact with Jerry VanEizenga in Nunica, MI. He's a friend of mine who has been making hand made knives of all sorts for over 20 years. His phone number is 616-847-9333.

Can't comment on the quality of any of the knives mentioned, below. My only recommendation, based on family experience, is to mail out the thank you knives, after the reception!!!
