Greatful for the mild winter we had last year. Gives us a leg up] Who else is going to cut -split early this year?? LOU

We don't use much wood- only when it gets below 20, which isn't that often around here. But daughter and son-in-law bought a place last summer, and primary heat is wood.

I've got some blowdown and other stuff laying around, so we're gonna get other son to help (he doesn't need wood, just likes to work), and buzz up a bit. We'll cheat a little- wife's boss has a dandy woodsplitter, which we can use any time, so I'm planning to put myself in charge of that part of it, and let the young bucks do the buckin'.

BTW, Lou, you'd better take it a little easy on that operation- that ole buzzard is just waitin' for you to falter. . .

we went into last Fall with less than a full cord firewood. This necessitated our fall and winter cutting almost weekly for a while. Amen on the mild winter. Only turned the oil furnace on maybe four times for family showers. L By late Winter caught up with our immediate household needs. Late Winter wind storms pushed over into an early Spring like weather we been cutting up tree line/fence line windfalls and have already accumulated next Winter's firewood supply. The oil tank likely only down ten gallons or less, and the gas pig reading 70% our fuel supplies are looking good for next Winter.
Anybody got any solutions for gasoline costs. For neighborhood runs we're driving a Cushman 1/4ton truck.

PS: Still got one last Summer's barnyard windfall's wood splitting to finish for Bro's Winter firewood supply. I'd sure like to know where my own youth's vim, vigor, and energy went?

Mike. Your closer to the truth then you realize. Got a letter from the Dr at the V.a clinic where I go for treatment of diabetes. Last year i had a scheduled Ultra sound scheduled and The women (these two gals could squeeze a rear tractor tire together)poked , prodded me for over 1.1/2 hrs and for over two weeks i was so sore couldn't hardly stand to lay down.I'M not about to have a repeat performance of them trying to push the life out of this old hulk. Now Friday came a letter stating I have a 4 cm aneurysm in the Abdominal Aortic line. Normally the size is 2.5 cm,and mine is larger. I am NOT Physically capable of undergoing surgery as age and diabetes have taken their toll. Still I'm going back for the testosterone, 1"1/4 needles but will do the injections at home .Victor can do em as he does the Insulin Injections nightly. Does a great job. Going to the family Dr this coming week so he can advise Victor where to place the shots so he doesn't hit the syatic(sp)nerves. Now my job with the wood process is (dont laugh now) is running the select valve on the splitter and running the Bobcat to load the split wood in the 1.1/2 ford. Now if that TURKEY VULTURE has plans for me, He just better hold off. Getting proficient with the SA 1911 45 acp. Any way, a person cant beat wood heat.#!.beats oil prices #2 no worry about running out of heat in the dead of night.Only down side is carrying out ashes and carrying in wood which my son does. I'm truly great full for him and the wife and daughters. One daughter will be coming over for Mothers day today.I thank you for the reply. Regards LOU.

Good for you guys!!!!Youth is fleeting or so I've been told. Also wasted on the young.lol. Lots of truth to both the sayings . The photos are 10 cord loads. !st picture is our household supply, 2nd picture is my daughters wood supply. She cuts her own with a 345 Husky. Son gives her a hand .One on each end of the pile. Makes fast work of the load. We have been burning wood for over 40 years now. No money for the rug heads. lol. Thanks for the reply Regards LOU.

SON says you forgot him.lol!!!!!!!!!!!! Now four old buzzards with a gosh awful looking tractor, and a ugly yellow dozer. Thanks for the inspiration.!!!!!!! Regards, LOU.

I don't know about some of the younger generation. I cleaned out a fencerow north of the house. I pulled anything big enough to use for firewood up to the house and split all of it. I have over 4 ricks of wood there. I asked my daughter if they wanted it. All they had to do is haul it and stack at their house. It is at no charge for them. 2 months later and it is still in the same place. I will start a fire in the pile where it sits before I will load, haul, unload and stack for them.

Some children are like that, cant give em things they can use and all they have to do is come and get it. Don't blame you at all. Maybe you should have put a price tag on it, for all your work and the wood.Lots of people cut wood and sell it for campfire wood. Pays em a little something for their efforts. Campfire wood goes for $4.00 a small bundle, tied with twine.SEEMS LIKE LOTS OF CUSTOMERS AROUND. Regards LOU.

Lou,I have my wood shed full 7 cords and this is the left over for next year. The mild winter we had enabled me to collect quite a bit of wood. Two differant farmer friends cleared back 30 to 40 foot on the edges of a couple of hay fields.I was able to get oak, walnut, mulberry, hackberry and some elm.

Dam straight.... And don't give in...... Family or not... I'd find someone else that would appreciate it and haul it to them (at least help them) and make dam sure the kids knew about it....... That's just me tho....

Nice stack of wood Lou,but as far as others wanting(needing)wood. You CAN"T give wood away any more unless you would cut del.and stack it for them.We have 5-10 cord down now and no one will take it unless we work it up.There are maybe only half the people(maybe less) now vs 5 yrs.ago burning wood, same with getting rid of a burner.
