I have a 1950 super a, that has been sitting for thre years. It has been converted to a 12 volt system. when it was parked it was working fine now the coil is getting really hot and i have no fire at plugs, can any one point me in the wright direction as to fix this problem and get fire to plugs.

I've had similar problems with several trucks and tractors over the years when coils go bad. If you check the resistance when it's cold and when the coil gets hot, you'll probably find that it greatly increases.

The points only need 6 volts, you need a resistor on the hot side of the coil, or you can replace your old coil with with a 70's ford coil with the built in resistor and that will fix your problem.

wrong on coils with built in resistors. When the change to 12 volts happened different coils were used and resistors were added to the ignition.

When it was converted from 6 to 12 volts it needed EITHER the addition of an external series voltage dropping (12 to 6) Ballast Resistor to the old 6 volt coil ORRRRRRRRR use a new 12 volt rated (NO Ballast required) coil

OTHERWISE 12 volts on a 6 volt coil will cause it to overheat and eventually fail.

Even the right combination will get hot if the ignition is left on when shes setting there not running.

If you work through my Troubleshooting Procedure it can diagnose the casue of non firing
