Setting Timing on Case 770

Assuming it is a Case 770 Diesel, not a Case/DB 770.

Left/right side skirt off

Oil fill cap off just in front of the injector pump. match the two marks visible through the hole, one on the pump body, one on the gear.

By the book, timing should be 30 deg btdc using the arrow on the front of the timing cover. Mine is a pig to start unless I set it to 27 BTDC(kicks back on starter real bad).

The timing scale on the front pulley goes from 15 deg ATDC, to 35 deg BTDC.

Post over on the Case board. Lots of knowledge on 770s there, but will need to know if it is Gas or Diesel. Also post the sn#, and we also like pics. as several of us have 770s. Talk to you there.

(quoted from post at 14:43:24 05/30/12) Hay Rich,
Did you get rained out of the fields today also?
Loren

Rained, but not out. Got an 1 1/2" at home(and hail) down to 3/4" at the farthest south farm. All was much needed.

Sprayed 20 acres with the 780 this morning while I had a baby sitter. Ground was slightly sticky, but not slimy. Seemed like the corn grew 2" overnight, its brushing the axle now.

Probably need to start side dressing the corn Monday. Adjusted the row width on the big 770.

Neighbors wheat got beat up, had 60+ winds here. A few trees down.
