trouble shooting

hello, ok so last fall i pulled my super w4 into the shop for some freshing up.and at this time it ran great!!! stripped it down over winter and re-painted it.did nothing to the mechanics side of it cause there was no reason to. everything went great up until last week when we finished putting it back together and tried to start it. it will only run wide open and the choke has to be on? throttle linkage was my first thought, maybe the notch in the linkage wasnted lined up into the butterfly correctly.Nope all thats fine. tried 3 different carbs, and changed the governer and still have the same results???? im i completly over-looking the obvious??? any help would be great

Check your fuel flow to the carb. Should come out in a steady stream for 15 seconds or so. You could have a plugged screen in the sed bowl or an obstruction in the tank.

If it only runs with the choke on, its one of two things- oldtanker got one, not enough fuel (so you gotta cut down the air). The other is too much air, meaning a vacuum leak somewhere (usually intake manifold gasket).

Fresh Gas???? If the gas is what was in it last fall then it may not run on it. If it is fresh gas than I agree with the others. Either a fuel restriction or a vacuum leak.

hello, thanks for the info. the intake gasket is new and the tank has fresh fuel. i can make some sense of the choke issue but why would it only run wide open? the butterfly opens and closes with the throttle but when i start it, it revs up to wide open and the throttle linkage does nothing i can move it open and closed still stays full throttle.have to hit the kill switch to shut her down.

I had something like that happen once after I had taken the carburetor linkage off and put it back on later. Everything was in the right place but for some reason it would only run wide open. I fooled around with it a bit and it suddenly went back to normal so the only thing I can figure is that something was in a bind somewhere. Maybe you have something similar going on.
