Farmall 300 rowcrop engine question

I have a Farmall 300 rowcrop that I believe that the engine was replaced at one time. How do I tell what engine is in it? Maybe a super h engine or a m or I have no clue. Tried to replace the hyd pump and it wouldn"t bolt up to the timing cover.

A Farmall 300 would have the 169 cubic inch engine. If you look on the engine block, kind of in behind the oil filter canister, you should see "C-169" cast into the block. A Super H engine will have "C-164", and the H will have a part number. An M engine will not physically fit in a 300.

If you have the correct pump for a farmall 300, the only engine that looks like a 300 and will bolt in that the pump won't fit is a before 1950 and part of 1950 model H engine. Or I should say front engine cover parts. On the side of the block above the oil filter look for a 4 number casting followed by two letters for a H block.
On SH, 300, 350, look for C164 or C169 or C175 and 6 numbers followed by R1 or R2 for a casting number.

The only casting numbers behind the oli filter that I could read was a 66. I will try to look a little harder with better lighting. Thanks

I bought a 300 with a stuck engine that I am slowly working on, I was told that I could swap the engine out of my H into it if the engine was too far gone, but that I would need the timing cover and cam gear from a Super H or 300 engine to make it right to mount the hydraulic pump. As it turned out I didn't have to do that, at least not yet.
