I work for the Highway Dept and thought I would share a few of the photos we got of the 1-in-100 year flood for the area around Duluth MN. Some places got 9 to 11 inches of rain.

Can you truck some of that to Colorado. They called our ditch river water yesterday. We are 1875, and they called 1874. Third time in 137 years. My neighbor and I each have about 27 acers of new grass. THIS IS NOT GOOD.

Wheat Farmer, what does it mean to 'call your number' on the ditch there?

I live in a part of MN with clay soil, too much snow melt, too much rain, the ditches were dug in the 1950's to get rid of excess water, typically the subsurface soil water is very close to the ground surface, we have springs just comne out of sidehills there is so much water - typically. I just had 4 miles of tile installed into a 40 acre field to get it to drain better, it already had 4 lines in it dad put in decades ago to dry it up enough to make it mostly farmable.

I know Colorado has different conditions, opposite, and your rules and laws are very different. You can't even collect rainwater from a roof out there? Irrigation is very rationed out?

So, what does it mean to have your number called?

Just be carefull on those 1 in 100 floods. Central Tenn , Cumberland river had back to back 2010/2011 May floods called one in hundred. really can mess things up. Now this year we are very dry like 16 inches shor for the year.

I know what your going through here in pa we had 14 inches of rain in something like 10 hours last September.

Irrigation water comes out of the Arkansas River. Our senior rights are the year 1875. But Rocky Ford, CO rights are 1874, and others are as old as 1860. So Rocky Ford is very dry, and they have called for the river water.So we have to stop pulling water out of the river. Until we get rain or they dump more from the lakes above us. The Arkansas River is running about 300 cfs. Should be up around 500 cfs. there are 23 farms on our ditch and we are lotted 16 cfs. (Cubic Feet per Second). Normally 1.4 cfs will water 50 acres.

We have had the one in 100 flood twice in 5 years which should mean no more for 95 years.I think.

I lived in Duluth for 4 years (moved back to IL last summer). We are actually headed back up there this weekend to visit some friends. It will be interesting to see the 'aftermath'.

One of the families we are visiting live 20 miles west of Duluth on 5 acres in the country and the only road to their house has been under 4 feet of water since the flash floods. They have to take either a canoe across or a 4 wheeler through the woods around the water to get to a borrowed car to go into town.
