I know we have several out west regulars on here. Are there anyone in Colorado, New Mexico or Utah that has been directly affected.. Just watched the evening news ant things are not looking good out there.

I am about 1 mile from the evacuationzone in Colorado Springs. Have had to evacuate some freinds. Smells like camp fire all day long. Last night was a bad nite lost alot of homes in a neiborhood. Something like 32,000 people displaced right now.

Talked with a guy who has kinfolk in Colorado and he recently got back from visiting them. He said the Colorado Springs fire is near Peterson Air Force base and there were two C130 tankers and available crew when the fire started. According to what he heard the C130's couldn't be used right away. The request had to go thru channels after the other dept's tried first.

I live in Lyons CO. and we are getting smoke from the Ft. Collins fire and the Boulder fire, there are several more burning in the state including the one near Colorado Springs. You can not even see the mountains due to all of the smoke. It has not rained in a few weeks and with all the wind and low humidity 5% You get a lot of fires from dry lighting and stupid people. Most of the 4th of July fire works are canceled and no fires in camp grounds. Lets hope for lots of rain.

I had to go to Glenwood springs late this after noon. On my way back i stoped for cheaper gas [3.749]. I saw smoke, and then a fire truck headed off. Fire was on a steep bank of the Roaring Fork river. Other than that we have had smoke from New Mexico, and some that hopped over the divide from Leadville. I had some rain on my way down, enough to turn the wipers on two times for one stroke. Philip

The thing with the military is that they just can't go in. Kinda like when New Orleans got messed up. The governor has to declare an emergency then ask the feds for assistance. A base commander can have all the equipment in the world to help but he is barred from helping until he gets orders authorizing him to. Just jumping in and helping could result in charges for misuse of property.

No fires real close to us here in Salida, but we are taking in Alpacas, Guard Dogs, and trailers, from some that have had to leave.

Heard about them this mornings news, strong winds causing more problems, what you don't want.

Oldtanker..It is of National importance, about time they changed the rules.Fire does not wait for red tape.

I have not looked this eve, but last eve & nite we were watching live coverage of the Waldo Canyon fire on here by looking up : www.kktv.com. They had very good coverage of a horriable fire. Waldo Canyon is rite outside of Colorado Springs,Co. clint
