The wife bought us tickets to see Scotty McCreery, at the local fair last night. He won the american idol contest for the best singer out of a lot of people. We had seats right in front of the stage. Out of all the songs during the whole show I reconigized was a song Elvis recorded. I thought he sould have atleast sung a couple western songs anyway. I guess Idon't like the new country nusic. Does anyone sing the old western songs anymore? Stan

He wants to be known for his own original songs, not doing covers of other peoples songs. Some covers are OK but not until he's established on his own.

Heck you are old..LOL They don't care what us older folks like or want.
They want you to go to Branson, MO to hear all the old folks music........

Don't believe I'd a done that; 'course, I've never watched American Idol, either. "Riders in the Sky" sing some a the old songs, but I wouldn't go watch them either. Come to think of it, there's not an 'entertainer' on the face of the earth that I'd walk across the road to see in person.

There's big difference between "Country" and "Western". I like(d) Western music but have very little use for Country. Mostly because of the lyrics. Western music extolled the beauty of the American West. Country music tells you about how the guy ran out of beer, cigarettes and gas all at the same time while his girl friend was getting it on with Waldo. My rant for the day.

A little O/T, but the CNY Junior Idol winner Ethan Harris sang Lee Greenwoods "God Bless the USA" at our Memorial Day Parade and got a standing ovation.

Ive even given up on riders in the sky.About the only singer i listen to anymore is red stegall once in a while. If the whole music industry depended on old guys like me for a living they would be mighty poor. What really torques me is that new so called christian music, sounds just like that stuff you hear blaring out of some teenagers car to me. But i guess those are the ones that buy it ,not guys like us.

C'mon now; some of it has country roots: remember "She might have took my car keys, but she forgot about my ole John Deere", or when Bubba wrote "Bubba Loves Charleen" on the water tower in John Deere green.

OofDa -- thank heavens for a loyal dog..

Oofda - You'll need to translate this wonderful word from the northern Great Lakes to others who aren't familiar with it. I haven't heard oofda since we moved from way far north in Wisconsin over 20 years ago.

Same here. My younger sister kept telling me how good Rascal Flats was, so what the heck, I bought their CD and put it in the player. Then I took it back out and launced it out into the field like a frisbie.

Stan, I know of a song, a duet by George Strait and Alan Jackson that points out the problem exactly. Its called "Murder On Music Row", about a place (Nashville) where real stars like George Jones and Merle Haggard wouldn't stand a chance today, but Rascal Flats and the sort...
