The big end was 18-20 inches and it was over 32 feet long......But we did get it done. Roof had one small hole and about 12 shingles that need to be replaced.

Wow.

Had something like that happen to my old shop - frame building about the size of a 1.5 garage.

Amazing what the old buildings can take, they don't fold in like the new designs and new lumber.

Paul what is really amazing is that the main part of the house was put up in the late 1800's and was a Sears kit delivered by rail that ran on the north side of the farm. All 2x4 construction except the floor joist.

One addition was added in 1942 (BILs father helped put it up) and the 2nd addition was added in 72 by my dad and I Year that dad bought this place....we needed indoor plumbing....LOL). The side with the sliding door was a porch That I enclosed as part of our ongoing renovation. Hope to get it sided this year if I don't have repairs on the equipment like I did last year.

We tore out the old plaster and lath. New insulation and windows and a room by room rehab. When mom was still with us she was burning 600 gallons of LP a month heating this house. We are now burning about 150 when it's real cold....like -20.

My 4th was spent defending this great country that
we live in. My unit is manned 24-7-365. Sleep well
tonight we are on duty and watching.

You are off the mark there Paul.
Modern trusses, hurricane ties, OSB or plywood sheathing, coated framing nails and a host of other technological advancements make for a much stronger house. And modern wiring, plumbing and heating systems, insulation requirements, energy efficient aluminum clad windows and siding that do not require paint or maintenance and a host of other things make for a Better house.

I was finishing building a wheelchair ramp that I had begun on the
3rd on a house about 15 miles south of here.
Zach

You are right UD. I have torn down many hundreds of houses and commercial buildings and you would be surprised at the strength of newer buildings.

we watched the movie Act of Valor - very powerful - reminds you of the very reason we can celebrate. Thanks to Lenoard and ALL who have given!

Spent my 4th working on the old tractor til it got too hot. Then spent a few hours hanging out with my brother and his family, they just moved back from Ft. Hood, Texas. Followed by grilling of some sweetcorn and pork chops and homework.

neighbor came over gave me option of which hog confinement i would sign off on. i told him what thought he left ruined the whole day and still is got things worked up here no more clothes on line no more nic efresh air outdoor evening etc.anbody want a very nice property with a very nice shop set and thriving business, just by end of month better have close pin over your nose all time. rules are just to close plain and simple. this same neighbor has been dumping in ditches for years. i really don'tcare if isee another sunrise right now.same guys brother done same for years but that finally got stopped he had a stroke

We went to Michigans Adventure Amusement Park with our two sons, their girlfriends and the one girlfriend's cousin and her husband. The wife and I spent the whole time in the water park til closing. Blistered the bottoms of my feet on the hot concrete, sunburned the top of my head, the tops of my feet and my knees, but other than that I had a REAL good time.

Planned on taking the holiday off and not doing much.

Plans changed to getting the JD 9ft 350 sickle mower serviced and ready to cut.

During inspection found the ledger plate missing on the outer shoe.

The live PTO on "Vernon" our 56 Model 70 decided to quit working, so used <a href="http://youtu.be/pPL6_euXXvE">"1011" our 53 Model 70 and "Nelson" our JD 7ft 350 sickle mower</a>.

spent some of it brush hogging, the rest of it moving all our stuff to higher ground, hope we dont lose the house this summer to flood water, this is going to be a rough summer, 2 major wildfires in our area have made the rain runoff about 400% more than normal, 2 close calls already

Thanks for the compliment.

<a href="http://youtu.be/_CJbfqofbUE">Refurbished "Nelson" about three years ago</a> to serve as a backup mower.

Used this team, "1011" and "Nelson", last month to cut some very tall grass down in the bottom.

Thanks Leonard for taking over.......I did that too in my younger years.

swmbo decided it was time to clean out the barn. backed some machines out, cleaned up one corner, put some shelves up and all her gardening stuff went there. thermometer in the barn hit 102 around 1 pm.....called it a day.

I was commissioned to fry up 200 pieces of chicken for our annual 4th of July get together.
It took me 4 hours from start to finish to cook it all but it was a hit at the party and every last piece got eaten and I received lots of compliments so 4 hours of work was completely worth it in my eyes. I love to cook and I love it even better when its totally enjoyed by all.

Not all are better.....My place is sheathed with tongue & grooved sheeting, the sides and the roof. Interior was lath and plaster. Only things I"ve changed in the last 50 years are : all new 200 amp elect, 2 new bathrooms and two new bedrooms and plumbing upgrades. Insulation re-done when all lath and plaster left.

Must be you've never broken one of those rivet tools. The dealer I worked at in the 70's sold the red "rivet-eze", and I assumed they were all the same, maybe not?
We were told to spread the word that the opposite end of the tool needed to be screwed down closed before use, because the cast was breaking in the middle!

On the other hand I have seen the weather knock down, rip out, or otherwise damage these modern agr. pole buildings. And the old post and beam barns just keep hanging in there way beyond their useful life!

Think we bought this one at TSC several years ago for about $50.

The tip on the punch end is broken, but the end for compressing the rivets works good.

Use it to tighten loose rivets and/or replace sections as necessary.

Very good tool in addition to being the right color.

Went to the lake, had a good lunch, ate the wifes birthday cake, went home and took a long nap. Worked on rebuilding a old hayrack. 100 degrees all afternoon. Boys took their familys out on the lake.

Spent the 4th at the VA hospitol in Bath NY. The Masons from Cuba NY put on a hotdog and hamburger picnic for the patients at the hospital. My friends Milt Nucombe,Norma Strarnes and Pete Peterson played some country music for them. Our wives helped serve the food. A good time was had by all. Later that day a local rock band also performed.
