daddy's girl

New User
Hi! I am new to this website and not quite sure how to ask a question. I am trying to restore my daddy's Ford 4600? that's what he always called her. He passed away a few years ago and I am trying to put her back together. My question? I cannot find any information on the internet for the following numbers: What year is this? Thanks to anyone that can help!

(Found these numbers under the hood)

Tractor Number: C620910
Model: D5254C
IHTT: 9J20B
Transmission: 9E21B
Rear Axle: 9FOJB
Hydraulic Pump: 9F28B
Hydraulic Lift: 9F28A

'IHTT' is actually 'UNIT' - a date code. 1979, May
20th, second shift. (concurs with the 1979 serial
number) The model number will tell what options it
has - gas or diesel, which transmission, etc., but I
don't have a key to decode models newer than '75. A
couple guys on the Ford forum do, though.
I have a 1980 4600 that my Grandpa bought new. Has
just over 8700 hours on it now. Great tractor.

You probably won't find it very useful to "decode" all those numbers- the rear axle, transmission, etc. "are what they are", and are not likely to need repairs anyhow- just cleanup and refinishing. Tractor restoration is more about refinishing parts and sheetmetal, getting rid of rust and crud, replacing bearings and seals as needed, replacing gaskets in everythng you take apart, replacing fluid fittings and hoses as needed, etc.

I goofed on the date - must have looked at two lines when typing. The date would be in Sept. ('J'), not May (E).
