I was watching the Mecum auction on RFDTV today and have a question. Anyone know what it means when the tractor drives out the auction ring and the banner comes up stating "the bid goes on"??? The JD model 62 brought some nice $$$$$$$ over 50K.
Thanks,Jim

I watched that also. A man could get rich quick if he could come across a couple 8N Fords with the aluminum hood. Wow $29,500 is quite the price for one.

The Bid Goes On" allows for post auction block deals to be consumated ... a tremendous service offered by Mecum to its Consignors and Bidders

Most of them have a reserve price, if it doesn't meet then they can negotiate. Thats one reason they really like having the sellers present.

They do not know tractor models very well. They are apparantly mainly a car auction company. Claimed a 48 or 49 M was a Super M, you could clearly see it had band brakes and a M decal. Also they had a 6030 that they claimed was over 200 HP actually 155.42 dbhp and 175 ptohp. Saw several others wrong, Cub Cadet called Cub, stated 9N ford came out in 49 actually 39, and had never heard of Nebraska Tests when somebody mentioned it. Interesting auction though.

I guess one of the Mecum guys was really interested in the 60's and 70's stuff so thats why they got into it. They definitely need some help though if they are going to keep doing televised events. The 1 hour infomercial a few weeks back was absolutely painful, especially every time they mentioned the steamer. you're not going to find an expert on everything, but they really could have used a couple of more guys with familiarity on a variety of subjects, especially pre war. They got talking about the Avery steamers while on the BF Avery and I just kinda rolled my eyes. The marketing on the Minneapolis maybe could have been better anyway, I didn't ask, but I saw nowhere a mention of availability for/of an ultrasound, information on the boiler or any inspections or certifications.

Don't get me wrong, Mecum puts on a fun event and I have been to all of them on at least one day. I was up there yesterday, but it seemed like a sparse crowd this time. I don't know if it was because so much else is going on, but I also don't feel like they did themselves a lot of favors on this sale. but for anyone thinking of going, its worth it it to check it out, they usually have something of interest for everyone, even the steel wheel guys.

TX Jim Mecum Auctions have some tractors that have reserve bids .If not met they still try to negotiate a sale some times by cutting the commision.Barret Jackson car auctions have a buyer and seller premium of 8&10 pecent. They refer to the one fellow as the deal maker. At auctions you never know what going on unless you know a head of time.My friend consigned an nice restored IH old pickup to a local sale with 10K reserve. It brought 4K and they announced no sale and last bidder gave the 10K

I saw some tractor bids exceed the reserve limit but just didn't understand until the replies what"on going bidding" indicated as the tractors drove out of the sale tent.
Thanks,Jim

At least one of the tractors selling "absolute" didn't really sell
according to its owner. Not sure the games played at car
auctions are going to work in the tractor hobby. Mecum has
been in court for shill bidding on antique boat auctions.
