High hay prices $128.00

some prices down here in texas are usually 45.00-55.00 per 1 round bale of coastal, that weighs in at 1300 lbs,,,but however, with this drought we been seeing 2-3 years now the PIRATES drive it up to 110.00 per bale of maize,or corn stalks that didnt make,,then some of them guys collect crop insurance and still sell the milo, and cornstalk hay,i see almost all the cotton that looked very nice in the fields being shreaded down because some claim the bolls didnt open far enough, but by seeing the cotton as full as it looked, theres gotta be a way to save half of it or at least try, hell pick it by hand, that way its not all lost

1500 lb alfalfa round bales at a sale here 2 weeks ago $180 a piece and small squares $15 apiece hay. Northeast Nebraska chris

Don't times change. 10 years ago, on the other side of the St Lawrence, I had to bow down with hat in hand to get 5 bucks for a 500 pounder. And half the time I would get ripped off one way or another. Yep, it's all in the timing....

Thats quite a bit higher than here or was here, hay was going for $150/ton, and from the 15 bale loads I weighed out on the scale with, on the old DM Mack, I usually had 5 ton and change, $780-$800 per load, just over $50-$52 per bale and I figure there were the equivalent of 15-17 small squares in each round bale and if so, price was $3.00-$3.50/bale average, or give or take- in that range if small squares were 40-50 lbs, just some estimated numbers, I have not hauled any hay since '09 though either.

ho's buying it?,...for that price it can only be horse crazy people.
There's no way cattle guys can afford it.

The most i ever paid was $60 deliverd to the yard, and these were 1800 lb bales. And i bought them only cause i was 40 bales short to get to pasture.

Article in our local paper. Some nice 2nd cutting small squares sold for over $12. I think they sold a couple of hundred at that prie. Why did I sell that stuff for $2/bale 15 years ago?

If it ever comes to the point, that I have to pay that much for hay, them my little hobby herd will go bye bye! I am just trying to use the 8 1/2 acres of pasture, to some advantage, instead of mowing it twice a yr. We are blessed with milder winters here in western washington, and 20 round bales will feed my 3 cows, and 3 spring calves, thru the winter.I have a hard time beliving 1800# bales, but have never bought Alfalfa, just local grass hay. My old minnie 335 would bust a stitch if the bales weighed more than 1000#I payed $50 last week, for 20 Orchard grass round bales. $1000.00 for a winter!

I would love those prices, as a seller. I only get 3$ a bale. 45-55 lbs, and I deliver up to about 15 minutes away. I still get complaints on the price.

Small squares are quoted for as much as $8.00. Unloaded three lagon loads into the barn in the last three days - that's pretty precious stuff right now. And NO it's not coming out until I feed it to MY animals.

250 and going around here.you have cheap hay

I was throught , Grey, Bruce, and north Wellington two weeks ago, and thought things looked not too bad. That hay must be going farther south west , down around London , Mithcel , Paris, way . I heard that down there some orn only got knee high, and then turned brown.Feeling lucky here, as crops look not too bad. Bruce

That's the size (weight) of the bales I get. Were 25 bucks until last year's dry weather/half crop. 38 bucks last year and stayed there this year even tho the crop was better than average. Prolly won't go back down......

If I can"t get enough hay off my 45 acres of hay fields, I will cull the horses down to fit my supply of hay. Even if it means putting a few of them down. I can not justify paying that much for hay, especially since the horse market is so bad you can"t even give a horse away. Looks like the backhoe may get some more use this fall. Hate to do it, but not going to take a second mort to buy hay.

Just where is the horse market bad??? We've been looking for a new Stallion just about all over west of the Mississippi and haven't found anything decent for less than $3-4K for weanling-3 year olds and selling pretty decent (4 that we asked about were sold before we could get our ???'s answered and start dealing). I can see the prices on the ones that were bred with the horse+horse=horse mentality. But decent horses still seem to be doing pretty good.

What kind of horse are you looking for, Breed etc.?? Can't give one away in Michigan right now. If you go to a sale with your trailer, if it is not locked, it will be full of horses when you get out, and No I'm not kidding, has happened to 3 different people that I know personally.

Foundation Bred Quarter Horse. Will try a Michigan search just to see. Thing is, it would have to get to TX, not a big deal tho and may be worth the look.....

Where? I'm in Ontario and looking for an English trained horse for my Daughter.
A lot of money but better she be interested in a horse rather than boys.

There's a slaughterhouse opening up in western Mo. Used to be for cattle

What is the usual cost per mile to ship good Coastal Bermuda/Bahia hay? I will most likely have a full cutting after Labor Day that will be extra.

18 wheeler loads cost me around $4 per loaded mile last yr. If you can set up a back-haul load then you can get it hauled for around $2.50 per L-mile. I've not had to buy and get it shipped this yr.
