Drought's over

Rain started steady almost 24 hours ago. There was 2.5 when I checked about 8:30 this morning. I just ran out in the rain to check again. It was at 4.7. I dumped it out since it only goes to 5.5 and the radar's still showing a lot more training over us.
Couldn't have come at a better time. Pastures were looking as rough as they were before we got those showers a few weeks ago.
Last time I saw 4 inches in one event was in September two or three years ago. I'd been filling silo and the remains of a huricane moved up here. It was 10 days before I got back in the field that time. That's fine by me this time. Got nothing much to do out there right now anyway.

I am truly happy to see some others getting some of the wet stuff! 4.7 in 24 hrs. is a good amount but I'll bet you haven't had much runoff yet. We got another inch here last night.

well not any rain here but much cooler temps. Low 60's overnight and a high of 84 today. Supposed to hit 59 tongiht. Feels so good having the house opened up. Cools temps brings back some energy to get things done!

It's been slow and steady enough that I think most of it's staying right where it is. I've got a little bit of ponding going on out in the pastures, but they sure needed it!

Montcalm,Gratiot and Saginaw Counties are under a flash flood watch. Seems to just be coming off Saginaw Bay and reforming over and over.
The air temperature is still 58 degrees. I'm sure the water temp is higher than that. Seems to be conducive to formation. That's OK. Keep it coming.

Glad you got rain, but unless it continues and replenishes ponds, lakes and the groundwater, as well as saturates the ground itself..... you still be drought prone. And something even far less severe in the near future than what you went through so far will actually put you in worse shape much quicker.... that's what we got in W/SW OK going right now.......
Ralph in OK.

(quoted from post at 11:33:27 08/10/12) Not a drop to be had down here in misery and looks like little hope for any till maybe and that is a slim maybe Sunday
ast week people a mile south of me got 4" in less than an hr.Hay was floating.
Lucky me was baling at that time and didn't get a drop, thunderheads all around me.
I got 1/2" las night.

Drought sucks,..so is to much rain.

sure wish it were here,I havent had a drop at the house since the middle of may.down almost 5 inches in the last two months so far from average.small chance all next week though.Ponds are really hurting now .they were low to start with and i'll really be surprised if they make the summer. its odd to see the trees dropping leaves so early.

Yeah, down here in Gregory,MI (S. of RR) it has been raining for more than 24 hours. We really needed it. I have been hand watering my 2 small gardens and everything is producing really nice. My lawn looks terrible, though. This will really help.

Its not over in Ky yet. In todays paper the Extension agent of Breckenridge County estimated the corn yield for the county at 25 bushels per acre. Think I'll have plenty of bin space. Joe

5:30pm - Just went out and checked, we're just short of 3 inches, here - about 15 miles north of rrlund. News says 4 inches in Alma, and 7 inches in Saginaw area. I planned the day off when I did my schedule, Monday, so I could cut hay today. Tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Since things were pretty slow around here, wife and I went over to the Gratiot 4-H fair in Alma for the animal auctions. We left mid-afternoon, and I can vouch for that place being a quagmire! I followed a big dooley PU truck trying to get out of the parking lot - being pushed by several husky men. I used that 4WD switch on the dash. Neat option!

Well, with all the different jobs that Dad had over the years, all six of us joke that we have different fathers. I don't remember right now if he was the milkman or the school bus driver.

The wife just went and checked the guage again. Said there's .6 in it,so 5.3 so far and still coming. Looks like it's gonna be coming for several more hours yet.

Almost up to 2" since yesterday morning and thankful for every drop.I was going to the show in Lagrange, IN today but decided tomorrow looked better.

I have been gone out West for the last month. I will be back in Mich. tomorrow. It was dry as a bone when I left July 15. Acording to my computor we got .71 inches in Grand Blanc today so far. Everyone I talked to back home said it has been raining there all day. Sounds like my computor might not be to acurate. It shows a total of 4.71 since I left home in July. I'm in South Bend tonight and I hope it will let up a bit in the morning, I'm on my motorcycle.

I know the old country stuff. It was when I couldn't turn on the radio without hearing Kenny Rogers or the Oak Ridge Boys that I quit listening to it.

I don't know if I want the rain turned off yet. When you wait this long, you kinda want to just see how much you CAN get.

I baled up the last of the by then crappy hay with the snow flying

Got about 1/2" of that in Eastern Iowa, all done now for several days.

We are just a little bit better off than Old.

(quoted from post at 17:36:54 08/10/12) If you hate Missouri, why don't you just pack up and leave. Misery???? You are disgusting.

Missourian's are a proud people. 8)
Like Arkansawyer's 'n Texan's.

Here in the western end of Kentucky, from march 8th we had only four rains. 3 tenths, 4 tenths, 7 tenths and four weeks ago 3.5 inches. Started shelling corn yesterday. 31 bu. per a. Thats about the best. Lot of fields won't put a combine in them. Cows have to go. Nothing to feed them. Our weather forecast for the next seven days, DRY but cooler. Worse I have ever seen in this area in my life time.
