Today I received a letter in the mail from my Credit Union, it recomended an Insurance company so I went on line and did a preliminary quote check to see how they compared to my old company, it looks like I could save a fair amount of money by switching....But I dont know alot about the company and I figure service is what they are selling so I was wondering if any one out here has ever dealt with Liberty Mutual Insurance and what they though of them. Thanks for your help

A lot of insurance companies will give a low quote the first year, then make it up the next couple of years.

Many companies will offer a lower price for a year, and then increase the price the next year. I would suggest in calling your old company and explain about the low price and ask them to meet or beat the low price company.

You don't get the cake unless you ask for it.

Good Luck

As has been said, be careful with first year quotes. Those are lures to get your business. They will likely catch up in future years.

Not taking sides either way. Liberty Mutual, being a Mutual Ins. Co. is a different kind of ins. co. and has been in business for eons. Must know how to take care of business if they survived the test of time. Personally I don't use them, but wouldn't have a problem using them.

I've heard of them but never had them. YOu should be able to research them on line to find out if customers who have had to file a claim likes em. Guy I know loves his company even though they don't have a good reputation. He has never filed a claim with them but the cost is low. So check em out before you do anything.

Never been their customer, but a young gal covered by them hit my almost new car in 1993 and they paid for it. I was impressed by how nicely they treated me on her behalf. Of course that was 20 yr ago.

Had Liberty Mutual on my Home and cars in Georgia (metro Atlanta - no farm) for about 20 years with no problems. Very good service when something happened. Moved to a small farm in NC. Went to Liberty Mutual and they insured the new home and cars but told me that their rates were higher here in NC. Went with them anyway since they had been good for so many years in GA. This past year (2011) I got my homeowners policy and bill. They had raised my home rate by 50%. I called to ask why since there had been no claims, they stated that the state rules had changed. I checked with others and Farm Bureau had rates that were 20% cheaper than what I had been charged before the rate increase. Good company in GA not so much in NC.

Check with the insurance board in your state. I bought health ins. from a different company, and if I had looked at the state insurance site I would not have bought it(only cost me $135,000.00)They had had over 500 complaints in 6 months.

I have had Liberty for over 25 years, just dropped them because their rates went through the roof and they would not budge on the prices. shopped around and saved over a thousand on auto and homeowners. Liberty was excellent with a claim. Very fast service.

As far as im concerned there all a bunch of crooks. Had an insurance company for 7 or 8 years, fair price on the premiums until.... my son had an accident and they informed me that I was being dropped. First claim we had ever filed, then they had the gal to low ball me on the estimate...... still chaps my u know what.

A fellow co worker told me to ask my ins. co if they would do a re-write of my car ins. policy. I called my agent and asked if they could do the re-write. They told told me they had never heard of a re-write but would check.
Long story short, I had a re-write done on my policy. Same ins. co. same coverage, same deductable, same everything. Bottom line is I saved 50% on my premium. I have told others and they have also saved money. Not every company will do a policy re-write, but it does not hurt to ask.

I place the ethics of most insurance companies lower than used cars salesmen and ladies of the night. I have been with the same one for 25 years, they have had their moments, they like to redline, or cherry pick on homeowners insurance. That being said we lived in Florida in '92 and'93 during hurricane Andrew and the no-name storm that hit the gulf coast in March of '93. One of my coworkers had been with Allstate for 30 years and got dropped, no claims it just they were running away from Florida, everyone had the rates go up 25-30% that year, seemed our rate didn't go up as much and we didn't get dropped. They are not the cheapest and will shave your car repair claim in a heart beat and won't stand behind their guarantee just like any other insurance company but like I said- used car salesmen and ladies of the night. Unfortunately these are snake you have to mess with.

What it boils down to is the laws of your state and the company. For example the laws in Mn are very good for the customer no so for the companies.

In Mn it's illegal for an adjuster to try to low ball the price of a car they want to total to see if the insured will bite on that price. When my son had his car totaled his company sent in an adjuster from out of state (was out of ND) who tried to do just that. When I called him on it he got huffy until I showed my MN independent multi line adjusters license. My son became a believer in "you get what you pay for".

My recommendation for insurance is to find a major carrier with a good reputation and pay the little extra. Can save you big in the long run.

When my wife a hit a deer 2 years ago and our Suburban wasn't drivable I call my agent at 8:30 PM. He met me at the burban about 9:00 PM, had a wrecker there. Had it towed to the shop I chose, had an adjuster there about 10 AM the next morning and it was in the shop that afternoon. He also picked me up at my home and took me to pick up a rental that morning. My agent even got the home office to pay for a larger rental vehicle because of my size and knee and back problems that make getting into and out of a samll car hard. About a week later it was fixed. I payed my deductable to the body shop and turned the rental in. Quick and painless as can be. I also recieved a letter from my company that told me that my rates would not go up because it a deer was "an act of God". I call that good service.
