In regards to mowing blurb the other week...

I really showed how fast a good commercial Z mower is over a regular tractor the other day. Let a friend use one of my Z's, cut his time to a third of normal. If you have a large fairly level lawn and have some bucks, a 72 inch diesel will get it done FAST. A lot of times you can buy a good used one for decent price because the market is smaller than a 60 inch. Just throwing ideas out there. I know guys say some are crazy about mowing. We mow 10 acres for one client twice a week, 4 acres are irrigated. It all gets striped in 60 inch widths with alternating diagonals weekly, with the bed edges recut twice a month and the 700 ft driveway edged each Friday. And if you don't, you're fired. Been doing it for 11 years, haven't messed up too bad yet!!!

I mow my yard with a ZTR now too. I used to use my tractors.
Even if you don't go any faster, not having to back up, turn around, etc
still cuts your time in half.
Mine is a commercial grade machine, not the flimsy home owner ones.
I bought it used and abused for just over a grand 3 years ago. Still going strong for the 4 acres I mow.

I've been mowing my lawn this summer with a 120" mower. Its
been dry enough to run the discbine on it. It cuts better than my
push mower, and 5 minutes instead of 2 hours. There is a lot more
whipper snipping to do after though.

I mow with a 72" Ferris. Just posted about it above. It cut my mowing time in half, and I went from a 12 foot batwing behing a Ford tractor. I am maintaining 20 acres of lawn/tree rows.

Reasons I like my zero turn.
1. You save a lot of time turning, try getting near a tree or a house with a 30 foot long tractor/batwing.
2. Ground speed is fast, as long as you have good blade tip speed.
3. Four wheel independent suspension. On the Ferris at least!

Down side.
They only do one thing and one thing only. Mow.

My knees and hips had made walking around the yard behind the mower unrealistic. I got a used 60 inch Ferris that had been traded in. I checked out the price vs age and hours with a friend in the business. The lawn looks a lot better more of the time now! LOL
