My John Deere "530" when going on a 4-6 hour ride will just quit running, sometime after 3-4-or 5 hours. Just quit. No warning. I put new coil on, new points &condenser, new wire between coil and distributor & new rotor. No difference. Just stops running. This has happen twice in the the last 3 weeks. What would you guys do next or replace? Today when it happen again, I took the distributor cap off and scraped the points with a jack knife and ran a dollar bill through the contacts and it did start again. Loaded it and went home. Thanks for any help.

Trace the wiring all the way back to the switch, and maybe beyond the switch if necessary. You've got a faulty connection somewhere. Possibly in the switch itself.

I had a Farmall H do the same exact thing when I bought it. Found out the previous owner had failed to properly tighten the connections on the back side of the ignition switch.

You may not be getting a good ground from your distributor back to the battery. We had this problem on a Ford tractor. You can check with an OHM meter, if you don't have an OHM meter you can run a ground wire back to the battery.
Is the coil getting really hot? This is a sign of a poor ground.
