Anyonce know what this bug is?

Splitting wood and found this strange bug, he had a long "hang down" from his tail, and a sac like thing at the end of his tail, kinda clear untill he pulled the long think out of the wood, then it turned darker

I've never seen an immature crane fly, but if it didn't have that tail, I'd say that was what it is. Maybe they're like a frog, the tail has the food to keep them alive until they can take care of themselves. Just a thought.

The long whip like tail is an Ovipositor. It is probably a Hymenoptera. (big group, not an accurate definition).

ita called a giant ichneumon wasp. they bore into trees and lay eggs on grub larvae in the wood. heres a link
