Interstate Pintle Hitch Trailer

I'm looking at a 2004 Interstate trailer but have a question on the brakes.

Is it possible to convert the air brakes to electric at a reasonable costs so that I can pull it with my one-ton? Or will it take new axles?

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to pintle hitch over a gooseneck to move a tractor short distances ( about 25 miles)?

I like it becuase it is an 8 foot 6 inch wide and my 7800 JD will will fit on it easier

Depends on the weight rating and manufacturer of the axle. Dexter axles are the most popular for smaller trailers and I know you can get 10, 12, 15,000 lb axles with electric, hydraulic or air brakes. 20,000 and over only come with air as far as my books go. I can call tomorrow and ask about converting to electric if you want. Should be able to remove the air stuff and install a new electric backing plate. Will need to know what brand and copacity they are tho.

Only thing I don't like about my pintle is it bucks and bounces the truck a lot when the trailer is empty. Once loaded down its fine.

it will take new axles there is no way air brakes can be made to operate from an electric magnet, which is what makes trailer brakes work on axles with electric brakes, how big is the trailer and what tonnage, most pintle hitch trailers with air brakes are far to big to be pulled by a 1 ton, there designed for trucks to haul large equipment on, i haul the company d-6 lgp on one behind either a tandem axle dump truck or a semi tractor , the empty weight of that trailer is over 10,000 lbs, with the dozer its about 50,000, they make smaller pintle hitch trailers, but their still pretty heavy ,by the time you bought complete new axles, it wouldnt take too much more money to pick up a trailer already designed to be pulled by a pickup for your tractor to ride on

Hate to argue, but if it has Dexter, (the most popular brand) 10, 12, or 15,000 pound axles all the brake parts just bolt on and can be pulled off and swapped. Some other brands are that way too. You are correct if it has 20+,ooo axles. As a pintle it could go either way. That's why I said we need to know what brand and rating they are first.
