Ya gotta go and see Ricky Skaggs. I saw him play at the Stoughton Opera House up here in Big Wisci last night AND MAN WHAT A SHOW!
I swear that guy leans on that mandolin so hard you think he's going to saw it in half. Oh...and his voice is as good as it's ever been. Originally I thought the tickets were a little pricey, but having seen the show now I would pay twice that and not complain.
He has a tenor that plays guitar for him by the name of Paul Brewster. Let me tell you...that cat can belt! He actually got the largest ovation on the night when he sang The Kentucky Waltz.
The band he had with him "Kentucky Thunder" has some unbelievable banjo and guitar players to boot. He played mostly old bluegrass (Bill Monroe and The Stanley Bros), but he also played some new bluegrass along with some of his hits from the 80's.
I would definitely recommend if you get the chance to go see him, get off your butts and go!
