featured tractor

last night, just by fate ,a lot of interesting pictures of olivers were posted ,It gave me an idea ,that maybe each night we could have a featured tractor brand, and people could upload pictures or tell stories about that tractor brand. To be fair we could start out in alpabetical order, we may have more than one featured tractor each night,I know of two brands that start with A ,avery and allis . I will start by showing an old picture of an allis wd my dad had when I was young,I didnt like it much,it was hard to drive with the hand brakes, and I really had to stretch to push the clutch in!Thats me with my hand on the tire,my dad and brother behind me and our neighbor on the allis. Tomorrow I hope someone takes over and posts a picture or story of a tractor brand starting with B. It would be great to see if we can keep it going each night,,
Tonight does anyone have stories or pictures of tractor brands that start with A?

I agree. WD had foot brakes, throttle and Hyd lever behind the steering wheel. WD also had both hand and foot clutch for the round baler.
Great post Larry. I always enjoy your posts and updates, Like your idea of tractor posts too. Keep up the great work. Yes, this is one Great site to be involved in,tho I don't post much,I enjoy the read daily!! Thanks to all. Joe

Here's the last tractor my dad had before he retired, an A.C. He liked to make things and made the harrow behind the cultivator. Don't know any unusual stories about it, it was a good one for him.

IH 91 or 92 or something pull type combine in behind, just what I'll looking for! I'd like to seed some oats, about 5 acres and harvest, I'm told the scour kleen on those gave good clean grain!

Larry@stines,
Sounds like a neat idea for a nightly thread.
Cannot jump in till further on down the alphabet. And will have to ask my husband for the stories as I never had much to do with tractors until there came a Regular into our lives.

This is a picture of the 1948 Allis B that my Dad bought new. I grew up driving it, I think from age 6 at first. Like so many of us at lot of things happened that shouldn't have but we survived, and so did the Allis. It now has a richly deserved rest in my barn, except for occasionnally raking some straw with my oldest son at the wheel. Dad would be so proud to see his great grandchildren driving his old tractor.

Great idea Larry. I hope we can keep the idea alive. I had a Farmall in the past but I don't have any pictures of it. I have a Ford now and I have a story about a collector of Fegusons.

Rusted used to have an 8N, but he sold it.

This was my Grandpa's WD. It is a 1950, but has a 4 bolt wide front on it. When Dad decided to become a preacher, Grandpa needed to cut his overhead. He sold a 1957 WD45, but had Wells Implement, Plymouth Nebraska, switch the wide front to this one! I don't ever remember this tractor not being on his farm. He had had a farm sale about 2 years before he died, and sold a WD with a mounted corn picker, and a 185 with Farmhand loader, but kept this one! When they talked of selling it to a good neighbor/friend of Grandpa's, I talked Dad into keeping it! It now sits behind my house in mid town Omaha Nebraska. Its only real chore is when it snows, but it means something to me, so I keep it!

Sounds like a good idea Larry, not sure if we can get the whole alphabet though!
I have a little AC C. I bought it partly to honor my first "boss".
When I was growing up my dad had a JD and later added a Farmall.
When I took my first farm job, my boss owned all AC.
He taught me how to run them all, WD, WD45, B, C, WC.
Hand clutch on the AC's were backwards from our JD but provided "live" PTO.
He showed me how to be safe while using a plow, disk and drag behind the wide front
and narrow front versions. Always warning about safety.
He's part of the reason I'm still here, and I will never forget the lessons a great man chose to share with me.
Here's a picture of my C.

Heres a couple of pictures of my WD 45 I had
Its a 1955 AC WD 45 behind it is my 1948 H and my MM 445
My Dad loved to drive these old tractors I bet the look on his face was the same one I had as a little boy when Dad let me drive his tractors.

Dad bought this WD new in 51 when I was 7. Traded in a cc Case for it and it was the only tractor we had tell 56. Then dad add a F-20. Very seldom did the WD not get started for something. For years the only thing mounted was the cultivator. Then he purchased a 3 bottom mounted plow and a mounted lister. It was on the same farm tell 72, when he gave the WD to me and I had to over haul it and buy new tires. It still used a lot around my farm. A few years ago the transmission was getting worn, so now has a 53 transmission and rear end. Engine, gas tank, grill and wheels are still the 51. After 61 years I still like feeding with it. OOP! Dad had this tractor 21 years and I have had it 40.

Gee Larry, I'm of no help until we get to the letter "F". Yea, just like yours!
BUT, I did want to point out a fact. Had I known you as a kid, I would definetly recognize you today. I swear you look almost exactly the same today as you did then, other than a bit of height and no silly hat! Amazing!

I wont be at home or near a computer tomorrow night, could you try to keep this going, ask if anyone has anything interesting to post about a tractor starting with B? thanks ,,, Larry

Don't have any pictures, but I did my first real tractor work on a D14, baling hay. Put it in gear, hand clutch in neutral, rev up to combat speed, let out foot clutch to start the baler (keep that other foot on the brake, or you'll "creep"), then push the hand clutch, and you're underway! Loved the way it snorted in heavy going. And if the going got too heavy, shift down by pulling the hand clutch into "under".

Tomorrow could be difficult- think anyone will want to post about their beloved Belarus?

Tried posting all pix this am- frustrating......wrong url or whatever- post the same pix tonite.....pair at a time....it works! Just sorry to bother my friends- all of you, with multiple posts. (OK- both friends if that applies!) still glad to share, just like when I see the others that post what they like. Oh, first pic- definitely a WC...hand brakes, no PS wheels, cult/lister lift. Driver maybe having a beer? Hope so....in all that dust!
