tire kickers....... or scoping things out???

is it just me, or does anyone else notice that if folks come from nearby, they just hang around and leave without buying anything.... ??

We've got to the point that we barely return calls/emails from local folks... had a woman from a couple towns away nagging about one of our fillies to the point that we gave in and told her to show up this evening (had someone else scheduled for this morning for the same one).... She showed up at the door Thursday afternoon unannounced with a friend. Drug them around for almost 2 hours and answered ???? after ????....... Ended with an "I'll email you tomorrow"..... Nothing.....
This morning at 0800, bell rang and there was a guy and his two daughters from 400 miles away... Had stopped at a bakery and deli and brought breakfast for us all...... went to the pasture with the girl they were interested in and hung out a couple hours then went to see the rest of the "herd" and a couple young sale horses..... Finished up just afternoon and were all hungry, stopped at the guesthouse in town and ate again on them ........ Got to the house had coffee and cake and did the contract/deposit for the horse....... Two hours after they left for home, get a call that they want one of the others for the other daughter and just email them the contract for it......

Same thing with dogs and when the wife bred cats up til a few years ago.....

Local folks are just a waste of time............

done now

We have a local web site here where you can post things for sale. I have posted a couple of things and state that my price is firm and they always ask if I would take less money. I just take it off and post it on ebay and end getting more money anyway. Yep locals are just a waste of time.

I have to agree. Locals tend to want to shoot the breeze. But folks from several states away are no nonsense serious about what they are calling about.
I had some Guys come from Ohio to buy a Truck with a chipper dump body. They showed up with a trailer way to light to haul it safely that far. So we cut the chassis behind the cab and took out the rear axle. They got all the pto stuff and tires they wanted and sent them on there way.

Most locals don't want to see a neighbor make a buck, and are sometimes jealous of someone that gets ahead.A friend of mine owns a car dealership. The company had a seminar a few years ago about sales. They said local people won't support a bussiness if they know you ,and are the first ones to bad mouth you around the neighborhood.

I see ads around here that the seller states "serious inquires
only"! Try that next time, may weed out the jack$sses

Maybe you've oversold what you had listed in the ad and it wasn't worth the asking price because that happens all the time.I'll become a tire kicker real quick if the item is not what the seller made it out to be rarely tell the seller just say I'm not interested and leave.

I dunno Dave, seems to me back here in the states, people on the coasts brag
about how much they spent on stuff, and people in the mid-west brag about how much they saved.
I like to save, and bargaining is normal for me, but if we weren't even close with
your asking/listing price, I wouldn't waste your time or mine to kick tires.
Local or not!

We have price and most general ????'s worked out before making an appointment...... and don't advertise/sell an inferior animal that would be a bad advertisement for us because we have slaughter houses local (luckily haven't had to go that route yet)....... Our prices are higher than some by different margins and lower than some.... We set them to target the group of folks we want our babies to go to (not the ones that get referred to as horse people)....
No biggy, just an observation that I get a kick out of....

I've heard that before and it's unbelievable how true it is, regardless of what it is.......

My experience is just the opposite. If your reputation is decent and you do good work at a fair price people flock to do business. The bad mouthing comes from those that go to a business and get boned.

Not saying about you Dave, but a lot of local jockeys, breeders, dealers have a not so good name because of what goes on behind the scenes that locals see and are cautious on dealing with them,(local jockey)where a distant buyer only sees the front(or show side)and don't know the true history.(background)Besides this fellow blindsided you by going thru your weakness(your stomach).
