OT: little 'puter help please

Have a chance to get for free (spend some points) an HP pavilion g6 15.6" Notebook PC Bundle w/windows 7 home premium, 64 bit 2nd generation Intel Core 13-235OM processor & 4 gb memory w/speakers, mouse, keyboard & webcam. What the heck is it anyway, like a portable computer? Is it something I can use like a 'puter? Don't know what a notebook is. Educate me if you will; no explanation is too elementary.
 
Watch out for spam scams that come in your e-mail. I get notices every day for free laptops and notebooks. I mark as spam and delete.
 
A laptop is basically a small, portable version of your desktop.
They can do about anything your desktop can do plus a few extras.
They're nice and handy to take with you on a trip.
They run on internal rechargeable batteries when power is not available.
They can connect to the wireless internet at most any hotel or restaurant so you can tell us where you are!
The keyboards are smaller than a desktop, as are the screens. Some people have trouble with them being smaller.
You could play with a friends laptop or one in the store to see if you think it would work for you.
The G6 model is two years old or so. Not the latest and greatest, but then again it's free.
