time to fill a propane tractor

I recently got a JD 630 LP, and fueled it up for the first time using the wet line from my propane tank. I had no problems except that it seemed to take forever. Probably took about 5 minutes to fill it from 40% to 70%. I had all of the valves fully opened, including the vent valve on the tractor tank.

I got tired of waiting for the liquid stream to come out of the vent, indicating the tank was full. How long should it take?

Yup, it takes forever, plus about 10 more min. Outside air temp will play a big part in the time. Also a differance if your house tank is full or half full. It is just a pressure differance thing. The colder it gets, the longer it will take. I have seen LP pumps on this web sight for sale. You might want to watch for one.

It's slower than other fueling but you might check a few things to be shure your set up is correct. If the valve on your nurse tank is a cluster type where liquid or vapor is drawn depending on which hand wheel is opened, with age, those can hinder drawing liquid. Dedicated wet valve tubes can get a pin hole above liquid level causing poor liquid withdrawel. Most gas companies will test everthing on your tank as well as in your house free or dirt cheap. I suggest you have them test your wet valve and also give you a refresher on proper fueling. 99% of delivery drivers are qulified to test and repair as needed.

You have to be patient with propane if you don't have a pump! This morning I tried something new. We have an old 30# that we use on a deer stand, took 10 years to use it up, it has the old valve, and I'm not spending the money on a new valve and re-certification. I made up a 6 foot hose with pal fittings on both ends. I set the 30 on the ground at the bottom of an outside stairway, and a full, warm 20 upside down as far up the stairs as the hose would reach. about 10# transferred quickly (half hour) and then I vented a little vapor out of the 30 and in a couple hours I had put 15# in the 30! I was happy with that and it will last us for years and then I will do it again.

I talked to my local coop on setting up a LP tank for filling up my propane fueled tractor when I bought it. I was told they no longer will install wet lines and they won't fill a tank if it has a wet line installed, unless it's a house/farm tank they have been filling for years. They claim it's insurance companies preventing them from do it. I've called some other places and they sound more accepting of the wet lines.

yeah, 10 minutes. I seem to have poor luk filling half full tanks. They seem to fill better from empty. A trick years ago was to let them fill overnight. But they filled full and if you did not use the tractor that day it would blow off.

I don't know if you are bleeding off the vapor valve at the same time, but that will speed up the liquid fill. I have a coupler i screw on the vapor valve and just use the small valve to tell me when its full it takes me just a few minutes.
