Straight mineral oil?

I need to change the oil in the Tansmission,Differential and hydraulic system of my MF50. The manual calls for straight mineral oil. Can I buy that if so where or what is the accepatable substitute for it. Thank you

I'm pretty sure TSC has it in 2 gallon containers - It will say Ford on the side of the bottle and have a blue label... The older Ford tractors need mineral oil for the gaskets.

Look for GL-1. It's available from NAPA (your store will likley need to special order it), and some Farm stores, e.g., TSC, Orschlein, etc. It may still be available from MF but is no longer sold by CNH.

Napa 65-0205 in 5 gallons containers.
I think they sell in 1 gallon size too.
Some rural WalMarts do or did sell it.
If you have multi power GL1 90 weight is not what you need according to what I read.

Several simple and readily available choices. Yellow metal friendly GL-5 , GL-4 or straight 50 WT motor oil.
How is it going to wreck the tractor by using an improved lube ?

Tractor Supply sells it as "Ford 90W transmission oil." Pure mineral oil , or "SAE 90W" is gear oil with a GL-1 rating.

Traveller® Ford Tractor All Mineral 90 Transmission Fluid, 2 gal. $19.99

Non-detergent 40W engine oil is just about the same.

The only tractors I know of that still really need it are those with wet-steering brakes e.g. Oliver and Case crawlers. Anything other then straight mineral oil will have some EP additives like zinc and phosphorus and they plug up brake bands and make them slip.

Many modern GL5 oils are rated "yellow metal safe" which would be your only - and very slight - concern.

Your co-op should have it or any oil marketer that sells oil and delivers fuel will have it. All major oil companies sell it.
