Sure was cold today

The wind was blowing too hard to even think of hauling manure down the road, not to mention that the driver would be covered more than the fields would be...

Instead I grabbed the saw and went to the field and started cutting up some dead trees that were already down. Ran a couple tanks through it, brought home a truckload, and then also cut up some dead trees we drug home from the fields at home. Dulled the new chain by the time I was done on barbed wire in the trees and I just barely kissed the ground once or twice with the chain. Was very dry/hard wood too.

Atleast I got something done today. Hopefully tomorrow we can get some manure out so I can keep plowing.

That's good, at least you made firewood! Weather has been
good here in eastern NY, in the 50s during the day all week,
no rain in awhile. I'd rather get cold and stay cold, I don't like
the up and down temps, burn wood boiler for the night, than
let it go out for the day, then restart at night! Pia, but at least
I'm saving on wood! Lol

Was not over 28 degrees today with a hard 20-30 MPH wind. Tonight it is going down to 14 degrees. Sat. will not reach 30 but the wind is laying down. Real change from the warm day on Thanksgiving.

The trouble is I don't burn it! My house has a pellet stove in it. My parents burn some of it in their fire place when it really isn't cold enough to light the furnace. The rest is all piled up. My brother is thinking about a wood burner for his house, but probably won't do anything for a while yet.

We let a neighbor in one year to cut up a bunch of old dead trees, but with the huge mess he left for us to clean up he's never gonna get the privelege again. He was also supposed to clean up some of the scrub crap, but he left it all. I dropped a tree in another field and just told the home owner on the other side they could have it. We drug it over to their yard for them and they get to cut it up. They heat their house with wood.

Lots more dead trees to cut up, but they'll have to wait. Brush clean up is much easier using the old chopper as a chipper though.

Town had their light parade tonite, so we stood out in 18 degrees, strong wind, to watch cold people wallking down the street. Was nice, but sheez, it was cold by the end.

Driving home just now, it's 13 degrees, saw lights in the field, fella was spreading pack manure. At least he was driving into the wind.... :)

Temp dropped from 51 to 35 in 1-1/2 hours last night, 30 degrees in the last 24 hours. Wind blowing hard and didn't get over 35 all day. Hauled the last three loads of wood to the house, I'll start cutting and splitting what I hauled to the barnyard next week. Wood heat sure feels good when it gets like this.

Don't know what the wind chill was... but yes, it was COLD.

I only like the air masses from Canada in the summertime... winter, they can keep the cold air.

After 10 phenomenal days of sunshine and calm here in central NY, winter has arrived.
I have been chisel plowing this week. But it has been a little wet for that until today. Was freezing every night, so there was a lot of slime every day!
Lake effect flurries kicked in today with the stiff wind. But it was just warm and sunny enough there was no accumulation. Corn stalks did get a little damp for a while. It's probably white north of here, and would guess it will be here in the morning.
