Crooked auctioneers

stooping to spaM advertising over 85 ads on CraiG's list. In the mid atlantic aRea. no I won't givE his name, but it sure is funny how he stoops to these levels, to get suckers to come to his sale, When all he would have to do, is to treat his customers honestly, and they would come to his sales, voluntarily. extra credit given to the first one to name this clown!

Not so much crooked but most here will not tell you results of an auction they recently did. One told me "It's a matter of privacy for the seller." Are you telling me the hundred or so people in the crowd at the sale are not going to talk about it with friends and neighbors?
Some auctioneers have a good following here and some do not. One guy a couple of years ago took a bath on a sale he had because the service he used did not have much of a following in larger later model equipment.
A few I would guess use ringers to push the price up.
One auctioneer who I suspect comes on here is pretty crappy if you call and want info on a piece coming up at a sale. I don't go to his sales.

"It's a matter of privacy for the seller."

As a seller I agree. Yes the people are going to talk about this sold for that and such but only the auctioneer and I know the total tally and it is nobody elses business.

You do realize that whether it be farmers, bankers, dealers, etc. that there are individuals who record the result of every item at a typical farm sale? I have never heard of record sheets being confiscated at the end of a sale by the seller or auctioneer. If you look on Tractorhouse you can see auction results of a specific model of farm equipment whether it is from an individual farm sale or consignment sale from many parts of the US. For some reason a number of auctioneers (but not all) thinks they should be different. It just adds fuel to the myth there is a conspiracy by them to screw bidders.

An indiana auctioneer had a consignment sale at springfield ohio and refused to show the auction sheet to the people having the sale.

It still does not stop any individual from making any notes they choose to make to include observing every piece sold if they desire. I know one banker that goes with a tape recorder because it is quicker for him to make notes versus writing. If somebody wants to know bad enough they can find out what they want to know. When I called the auctioneer I could not get time off from work to go to his sale and I only inquired about one piece because I honestly did not care about the other items. Truth be told I think the auctioneer did not want to help me because he thought I was small potatoes and just did not want to make any effort.
I would bet the people at Springfield, OH could find out quick by calling the local ag bankers or machinery jockeys.

Hi
you say this about auctioneers there are some machinery dealers out there that are no better. called one about a used tractor they had for about 18 months.
I could of sworn he had a guy in the office wanting to spend $300.000 with his attitude when I phoned.
I said this to a friend that dealt there once, he said it"s no better in the office face to face and unless they sell to spirits there was nobody wanting to spend 300.000 the day he was in the sales office.
I guess customers are an occupational inconvenience to some auctioneers and dealers.
Regards Robert

not just a conspiracy, some auctioneers do screw the people they are selling for or the buyers.have seen it happen.

They don't want to tell you the prices because they don't want to tell you how many items didn't sell or they were bought back by the owner. I see tractors at one auction and the same tractor at another aution later on. Now sometimes guys buy cheap ones and put them in another sale to make money but not the high dollar tractors that im seeing.

Don't know, what kinda cookie you want, I'll pick some up, and bring 'em over, when I mow cinderella's lawn, next spring!

We have one around here like that too.
Posts pictures of something for sale on CL "by owner" with only an email address.
Then if you ask a question via email he sends you a link to the sale
flyer on his auction site.
He doesn't answer the question, and neither does his flyer.
He was trying to drum up business and didn't really know what he was selling.
I'm not saying he's crooked, but the advertising wasn't right.

i Know there Is one from somewhere south of aKron ohio who deals in real estate as well, and if he doesn't have a buyer lined up, will give the place away, rather than offer it in different combinations of lOts.
