Mills Farm/Fleet about $350-# fancy whole shelled
Sam"s Club ~$3.00-# for the same pecan different package. Central Minnesota. Jim

I have been selling pecans in the shell for 60 cents a pound. The price dropped to 50 cents. Not hardly worth the effort since I have sold my pecan harvester. Roy

Seems like the middle man is making a killing.

Want to ship some up to me?

Shipping would probably a buck a pound. Still would be cheaper when they are $4.00 a pound in the stores.

Maybe I should come down and get a pickup load.

Send me an email.

pecans used to be highly prized in n. alabama, trees were closely watched and pecans picked up regularly, even had to be on guard for unwanted pickers. pecans were taken to seed stores to be run through a cracker so they could be shelled easly. however for the past couple of years i have noticed that a lot of trees are going unpicked, even the heavily ladened trees are going ungathered. guess another sign of the times; difficult things aren't worth the effort.

Gary,

We once stayed at an RV park in Tifton, Georgia that had previously been a pecan grove (orchard?). It was in October and the pecans were ready to be picked. All night long, "thump, thump, thump" on the roof.

It was worth the noise, though...we picked up 5 plastic grocery sacks of those suckers. Good eating, for sure.

Our local guys are paying .50 a pound for native pecans, the small ones. They won't buy the big ones at all.

Not hardly worth picking up. Lots of trees and mature orchards weren't harvested this year.

I haven't payed any attention to in shell prices but shelled are $8-9/ pound.
