On this date in 1929, Popeye made his debut in the Thimble Theatre comic strip. The cartoonist, Elzie Segar, was from Chester, IL, and here's a pic of Popeyes statue near the Mississippi River bridge.

Poopeye was one if I remember right. It was the only time a kid could get away with saying poop.

Peep-eye or pee-eye something like that for the others???

Clue on my crossword puzzle today.
Popeye's back?
Turned out to be aft which makes sense since he was a sailor.
Popeye did a lot for the spinach farmers of America
My Mom never had to use Popeye as an inducement to get me to eat my spinach; I just naturally liked it.
Remember the Movie with Robin Williams as Popeye and Shelly Duval as Olive Oyl? It was pretty good.
