01 Chevy Impala Question

I have an 01 Chevy Impala. When you push the trunk button the trunk lid unlocks, but you need to grab the trunk lid and pull it up. This is an inconvenience when you come out of the grocery store and have to stick your hands in the slush and slop to open the trunk and then you have nothing to wipe your hands on. I am wondering if they are all this way, or if the lid should raise when you press the release? I do have an old tractor and I like old tractors.
 
Yes like Allan said if it has gas struts replace them. I would keep a towel inside the trunk to wipe your hands on after you open it.
 
I had a 99 monte carlo that i adjusted the torsion springs to raise the lid better; there was a 2nd notch to insert them in that increased the tension.

I like the idea of tightening the torsion spring. I did that on the dishwasher door. I am tall and have a bad back. I wanted that door to come to me when I pushed in the bottom rack. It does now and I love it.
 
My 2011 Imp. will not come open on it's own, the salesman told me it was a safety issue, so it wouldn't hit you when it opened. Another example of big brother protecting us from ourselves!
