Anybody have any idea how this light comes apart to replace the bulb?

I can see a spring, I"ve got the console apart and all the side sheet metal replace (had just split and replaced the clutch.

But this damn tellight doesn"t seem to want to come apart...and it doesn"t work - never has (since I bought the machine.

I'm thinking push on the backside and twist. Sounds similar ot the oil and amp lights on my 1600.

Here are some pics...

I cannot twist it at all - seems like it could unscrew and come off but I cannot seem to turn it...

Don't want to break it if I can help it...

If I was working on that one , I would grab it with a pliars and get it off. That spring is really tough, the tube has a couple slots and hooks so you push and turn to get it loose. I threw many of those away and installed the later edition which you can just screw the lens off like Allan suggested to replace the bulb. This style you still have is a two handed job to replace bulb, one on each side of dash.

I'll try that - thanks - Its all apart because I just got it back together after replacing the clutch and none of the electric worked on the tractor except an aftermarket water temp sensor, so I'm getting all the stock wiring and gauges replaced and repaired...

Its not workin...I put a wrench on the lens and almost cracked it trying to twist it off the chrome ring...

Really not sure what to do - maybe the last owner glued it or something...

The chrome ring is fitted into the base the same as the bulb is installed in the socket. You need to push the chrome ring down into the base before turning it.

They came apart a lot easier 40 years ago.

Probably has a bit of dirt and corrosion making it hard. Try it again, pushing the back and front together then twist them. Should be basically like Owen stated. More or less 2 pins in J shaped slots, and the spring is holding the pressure on it to keep it together.

Bummer - none of that worked - the spring compressed easy enough - but I have never seen a light come apart like that before - never seen one work like that before....

The red bulb and silver ring were part of metal mechanism that reached back into the rear housing of the light with the J connector...similar to backup bulb lights we have now. A solid inch of metal to metal contact - no cab and that sucker was rusted in there...

It only came apart after I had broken the light and crushed the cabside part sufficiently to pull it back out the hole and then it came loose.

probably hasn't been apart since it was first put together.

Anyhow - thanks anyway...new one is being ordered.
