on my b allis tractor,it is a kick start switch with missing linkage.I am thinking I could go to a selonoid and key type switch set up,it has been changed to 12 volt with alternator but still has a 6 volt starter, does any one have any info to share on this,Thanks Tom

Seen a lot of those conversions... have an automotive electric shop remove the copper contact stud and install a threaded stud in it"s place, and install a solenoid.

I have also carefully drilled into the center of the existing stud and tapped it 1/4" and then simply bolt up a good quality cable.

I have a B and C that both had the kick start, and I found it unhandy, especially with big boots on. When I saw a late B that had a hand/pull lever, much like the WD,etc. I decided to see what I could do to switch mine. I discovered they put a dimple up into the bottom of the B/CA fuel tank to accomodate the different starter lever. So, I compromised. I drilled a pilot hole 180 degrees from the original in the starter housing, so I could turn the switch up on top. I made a little bracket to hold the upper end of the starter rod, just like on the late B/CA. Now I have "hand-push" starters! Very handy.

i keep thinking that if i can change some of my tractors over to a key switch starter system, it would relieve my fears of some little a-o from trying to start them at shows, pulls, etc..
