Full Steam Ahead

Winter weather has finally broken. We made 32&qtr. gal. of syrup Monday. Gathered again yesterday, but didn't fire the evaporators until this morning. We had enough sap in the storage tanks to last until the gathering crew showed up after lunch. The buckets were half full or better again this afternoon. We should make 60 plus gal. syrup today with the evaporators running for about 14 hours steady. I brought home most of Mondays syrup, to clean the jugs and label them. We will probably fill retail bottles again tomarrow, but after that we will be filling 50gal. aluminum kegs for comercial buyers. Plastic jugs like you see in the pic run up to $2.50 each, plus a lot of time to fill, clean, and label them for retail sales. The wifey and I will be busy prepareing the bunch in the pic. for several hrs., readying them for shipping.
My e-mail is open, but I will not abuse this site. I understand that some people earlier had problems opening the PDF file that I sent them with prices and shipping info. It's fixed.

Are you getting tired of it yet? It is looking like the run may outlast some of the producers.

No, I have spent every spring of my life in that sugar house since I was born. In the pic. is 4 generations of our family still carying on the tradition. My Dad behind the walker spent his life every spring in this sugsr house also. He passed shortly after this pic was taken. It was his last time to see the evaporators making syrup. He died last spring a month shy of 91. Left to right in pic is me, dad, his bro., my cousin one generation down, and his son. There is also another first cousin and his two sons and a grandson who also help out when they can. Chanches are that me and my uncle will die still trying to carry on the family farming tradition. It's a good life, if you can hack it.

Just starting to run a little here in central MN. We hung about 100 pails yesterday, so hope the fun of cooking will begin soon.

Great pics, I love the wood dolly for bringing the wood in to the evaporator. I wouldent mind stoping out your way some day and seeing your setup! But I'm tied down with my 18 month old daughter, which is no problem, but I'm taking of someone's 40 cows! Lol. keep an eye on your bp, my wife also has high bp, and she said 140 is border line to high, they call hypertension the silent killer, so keep watching yours. I don't mean to sound harsh. Jason

Hey Jay,
It's less than an hours drive to here. We drove that one whole summer when we built Big Joe's building down your way. Pack up the little one and the wifey and head west. This is goung to be a big push for us for the next 10 days, as the weather is supposed to finally cooperate. It will be every day form now on. Give me an e-mail if you don't have my ph# any more.
Jim's animals can survive for 4 hrs. without you. HeHe. Did you bring home the kitten?
Loren

No on the kitten yet, I'm thinking Monday, gotta take her to the vet first, make sure she's flea free ect, I think Jim should be back in a week or so! But I'm way behind on getting things done around here and at the horse farm! I'll let you know, wife asked me to do something with her and baby before I go back to work, so if you don't mind maybe we will come out one day, I will let you know ahead of time. I'm sure I have your number still!

I don"t post much, but I"ve been reading the posts opn this site for years, and it"s great to see someone keeping a family farm going. I"m not far from you, and know your farm well. It"s beautiful, and I hope it stays in your family for many generations to come.
