Starting Problem on my New Holland

30 horse New Holland Diesel. it was low on fuel, so I poured some new fuel in. It ran for about 5 minutes and then sputtered and died. Now it cranks with white puffs coming out the exhaust.. No start.
Now, here's the thing... There might have been some rust in the bottom of the gas can, so I stuffed some screen in the bottom of the funnel before I poured the fuel. I'm thinking some contamination got through. So, where do I go from here?

Thanks for all advice.

Got a 35 HP TC35DA. Takes a lot of cranking to get them going again, but yours started and ran for 5 min. I'd pull the bowl put a new fuel filter in it, bleed it and put new fresh clean fuel in the tank and see what happens. It that doesn't fix it, it's beyond me.

Sounds like water and/or dirt. I would start at the filter and work back to the tank, be sure to check the tank screen. I threw away the cans and got a filtered tank in 1963.
