Electric rates in your area?

Just curious -what electric rates are in different areas. My Co-Ops gets 12c per KWH plus a $36.00 facility charge plus taxes which translates to $64.55 for my March usage of 231 KWH for my 2 machine sheds. They won't allow one common meter for my house and sheds (which are located only 150 ft from my house).

My co-op rate is $23.00 service charge and about .08 per kw, service charge is going to $30 next month but no raise in the kw.

That's about what we pay up at the farm, and I think it's terrible. They blame the high prices on the distance between meters, and they have a point there. Here in Bemidji it's much cheaper.
Can't you just run an underground wire to your sheds and feed them all off the same meter? What you do on your property with the power should be your business. As long as it's done to code and inspected.

I have two building sites. One site is where I live and have the shop and out buildings. The other site is machine shed and grain bins. The site with the machine shed and bins is on a higher rate because it's considered commercial. I'm on REC. Jim

Five years ago we were told electric rates were going to be raised in order to help wind and solar companies compete. You are now experiencing the benefits of alternative energy.

Slope Electric in ND. $13 base charge. 1st 500 kwh 9.3 cents, over 500 5.5 cents. Elect heat Oct 1 - Apr 30 3.4 cents, May 1 - Sept 30 4.9cents. Elect heat requires a seperate meter but no charge. They will not buy that air conditioning, the electric waterheater, dryer, coffee pot, microwave and range should qualify for the electric heat rate, I tried! Then, when I started talking about how much heat electric lightbulbs generate the nice lady on the phone laughed at me.

$35 base charge. Going to $40 may 1. First 1400 kwh is 10.95 cents. After 1400 is 9.6 cents.

Heat rate is 6.1 cents on all kwh.
$5 month credit for demand controlled water heater.

Don't have the rates right handy but I do know that the total bill for the months that always used to be the lowest are now $30-$40 higher than the months that used to be the highest with A/C running in house and shop.

Our co-op here in NH is charging us $.197 / KWH. There has been a lot in the news lately about The big rate increase that Northeast Utilities, who generates the power recently got approved. There reason for it is that the Public Utilities Commission forces them to buy higher priced electricity from Alternative higher priced sources, such as wind water and wood fired. Thirty years ago two friends built a small hydro plant when the deal was available. The only way that they could afford to do it was at the artificially high rate that they would get paid and with the construction grants at the time. Now on top of this a company is offering 25% lower rates by purchasing power at cheaper sources out of the area and using the Northeast and Co-op wires to deliver it so even though transmission costs are the same the generation part is lower. n article in the paper said that many customers are making the switch so it leaves fewer to split the payments for the alternative energy sources, so the rates go higher still.
I can't see why you can't run three buildings off one panel as long as one of the services is adequate. As Russ says you just run the wire, they can't stop you from doing it on your property as long as you meet code. I ran out underground to a sub panel in my barn a few years ago so that I could run more load. I need to run to my house off my shop service which is bigger. all I need is to dig a ditch and lay the pipe. But the savings is only the $25.00 per month meter charge so payback would take a long time.

Duke Power is asking for 16% increase this year. They got a 12% increase last year. Our income has not gone up in our area by that much!!!

I think your utility is BS'ing you. The connections from the meter to your buildings is yours.

They make a pedestal meter unit with 2 breakers in it just for this, run underground from there. I have that and it works fine.

I use a local coop....no choice but ok. Rates are around 11 cents but fluctuate a penny or so due to "fuel recovery costs". I have 3 meters but only because it's not practical for me to do it all off one.

Basic charge is $15 per meter, recently up from $10 which had been the rate for 20 or so years. Current light bill was $85 for the house and $ 20+ for the shops but all contain (mine, not rented)night lights, 4 in all which are now $15 per month if you rent them. Meter is read electronically.

Yep, wish I could run some 8-3 over to the machine sheds from one central meter meter and I can't understand their justification of requiring 2 meters,2 transformers, 2 facility charges, 2 different rate charts (with the same 11.9 cents per first 1000KW) while providing single phase power from adjacent power poles 150ft apart. Same electricity is used for farm and home with both being taxed the same - unlike farm fuel with no road tax.

About 5 cents a kilowatt hour in the Pacific Northwest. Hydro power- can't beat it. That, combined with the ideal weather for them makes heat pumps the heat of choice around here.

By the way, our electric bills are a little higher here because the Feds have mandated that the PUD supply 10% "green" power- that's wind and solar. Why not hydro? Its as green as it gets. But that would not advance the cause, so hydro doesn't count.

I am paying Dayton Power and Light around 12.4 cents per KWH after they load up all the various fees and surcharges.

Scenic River Energy Co-op in Southwest Wisconsin

per KWH - .1046
power cost adjust - 14.40
fixed charge - 24.90
nontaxable public benefits - 1.44
load control credit - (5.10)

My bill for 3600 kwa last month was 420.26

We"re on Dual Fuel and storage water programs with our REC. Various charges, yeard light, base charge, power adjustment, etc....but net is right at 10 cents per KWH of what we use. Central MN.

West Central Wisconsin, Riverland Energy Co-op
.116, (11.6 cents) per Killowatt PLUS $1.00 per
day "Facility charge", just for having the power
line hooked up. 15 years they didn't have any
Facility charge, but now the Co-op has a special
staff member whose job is to weasel out ideas on
"How to rape the customer" !
