How to pull lift housing on 885CIH with the XL cab?

A couple of months ago I bought a CIH 885 tractor with a XL cab.I thought i had all the little problems worked out untill today.I hooked my disc mower up to the 3 point hitch and noticed the tractor jerking and looked down and the lift arms were leaking down and then correcting them selves about every second.I cut tractor off and the lift with a load on it leaked down so fast you could see it falling.I have seen old Massey Fergerson's do this but not a CIH.I suspect the lift top will have to be removed to fix the problem. What kind of a job will it be to get it off with the XL cab?

You won't get it off with the cab there. Take the cab off and its all right there. I had to go this route twice because operator broke the pto shaft off and there is an internal snapring that has to be opened to remove the shaft and the rockshaft housing had to be off. chris

I don't know about yours but many cabs will lift enough at the back so that the cover can be lifted up and rolled back with an engine lift crane.

Our 495 has done that for years when a HEAVY load is on the 3pt, i.e. plow or disc mower. I haven't seen a need to fix it.

The arms don't really drop a significant distance, it's slightly annoying, but still works fine. Only does it when the 3pt is lifted, not when lowered into working position.

The 3pt will settle when tractor is turned off.
