I will be taking a little trip in late August or early September. Wyoming is the main focus but will travel through South Dakota on the way out there and Nebraska on the way back, also may swing up to Montana. Definately want to check out Yellowstone. Looking for suggestions on other places to visit, especially historic and agriculture related. I know there are lots of places to see but will only have a short time.

If you are coming on I80, check out the Strategic Air and Space Museum, exit 426! Impressive-they have a B52 INSIDE the building!!!!

Rodeo in Cody Wyoming, stay in West Yellowstone if going there. Cody says "gateway to Yellowstone", but it is a good 1 1/2 hour into the park from there.

I second Little Bighorn National Battlefield. If you go, read "The Last Stand" by Nathaniel Philbrik, before you go. Lots of good information and maps to make the battlefield more interesting. A lot like seeing "Picket"s Charge" in real life only on a bigger scale. I"ve been twice and would go again at the drop of a hat.

Actually, for Yellowstone Park, your best bet is get a cabin INSIDE the park at Yellowstone Lake. Pretty good price, but reserve early. I'd also recommend the Needles Highway in the Black Hills. Breathtaking scenery and the only corkscrew wood trestle bridges in the world.

bear tooth pass out of Red lodge Montana a little south west of Billings beets yellow stone all the heck. very close to yellow stone. yellow is nothing but a tourist trap and to many foreigners that are rude and they think they own the place

I heard you need to reserve a year in advance to inside the park. I would love to stay at the lodge, will probably be after kids are grown.

Plan 3-4 days at Yellowstone, it is a BIG place.

If you are going thru the northern part of Wyoming on I90 there is Devils Tower just west of Sundance on the north eastern border. I grew up sixteen miles from it. You can walk around the bottom of it. I went to Yellowstone once and was not impressed with it. Old Faithful doesn't blow like it did before the earthquake and the pools stink to high heaven.

Go see the gun museum in Cody. It'll take you a whole day to se em all. I think they have one of every variation of gun made!

In Sd Corn Palace in Mitchell, Pioneer Museum i Murdo, Wall Drug in Wall, Badlands, Black Hills. Drive through Custer Park. Swim in Hot Springs Sd, Mount Rushmore.

Don't try to see it all.That way you have an excuse to go back.My wife and I have made the around the horn trip 3 times.The BIG HORN basin has a lot to see also.And nobody else mentionrd the CHIEF JOSEPH Memorial Highway thru the Shoshoni forest.If you go to Devils Tower take the back way out of Sturgis rather then I-90.A really pretty ride.Little Big Horn will make the hair on your arms standup. If you go thru the Big Horn Mountains watch out for the open ranch cattle.They kind of own the road.LOL.

Enjoy your trip.

I must mention, In Cody, they have the the Irma Hotel with buffalo Bill history. they put on a free skit. we saw it. It is worth every penny. It was ruined by the continuous stream of fatso's on Harleys with straight pipes (there's something original) blasting through town.

Pioneer Village in Murdo, NE;
The Stategic Air and Space Museum in Ashland, NE;
The Big Boy Locomotive near Lauritzen Garden in Omaha, NE (free but lots of stairs);
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium;
Fort Atkinson State Historic Park near Fort Calhoun, NE;
Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Council Bluffs, IA;
Farmall Land USA in Avoca, IA; and
Living History Farms in Urbandale, IA
are good places to visit along I-80.

Thanks everyone for suggestions. Little Bighorn is on my list as are the Badlands, forgot to mention them in my original post. Been to the S.A.C. museum couple years ago, very impressive.
