Just saw this on Charlotte, NC Craigs list. I know nothing else about it other than what the ad says, but thought I'd pass it along to anyone that might be interested and know what they were looking at.

I will certainly allow that it is rare but I can't imagine a 371 on 6500 lb chassis being a beast.

Can't remember details, but thinking back to around the 1950's, I recall upgrading LA's to a bigger engine wasn't uncommon.

Farmers wanted more hp on the ground and the LA had a drive train that would stand up under a much more powerful engine.

Did Case ever offer the 3-71 as an option? I don't know.

I read that Deere put a Jimmy engine in an LA in the early 50"s to see if a two wheel drive tractor would have enough traction to hold 100 horses. They chose the LA because of a strong transmission. True? Jim

Fixerupper, Your statement is about Deere using a LA because of there strong rear end is interesting . As Deere used a chain drive like the Cases in all of there model"D" s. I wonder if Deere knew that they had a very strong & trouble free drive train.
I have heard from an well imformed old Case man that Case did not offer the 3-71 factory installed, but they had some of the parts needed to do the conversion listed in there parts books at one time. clint

I saw one out by Sterling Co. maybe fifteen years ago. The owner said someone in Denver was doing the conversions way back when. I would have liked to see it come home to Iowa on a combine trailer but he wasn't willing to sell and I didn't have the money anyway. Jim

150HP without excessive smoke from a four valve 3-71 at 2500 rpm is possible. Using Detroit Diesel over the counter parts.

The Deere Model D came out in 1923. The chief engineer on the development of the D was Leon Clausen. Leon Clausen left Deere shortly after the D came out and went to Case to become head of engineering. Deere influenced Case with respect to the chain drive.

The Egging Cab Company in Gurley,Nebraska converted lots of LA Cases over to Detroit power..There are quite a few of these tractors around and they bring a good price..

B&D, I know that there are larger injectors. Could you elaborate on some of the other parts? Thanks.

N series piston and sleeve kit. Upgraded cam follower springs
and upgraded valve springs from DD. four valve head. N80 or
C80 injectors, over drive the blower. Advance the cam one
tooth .

Just be aware that N series liners and pistons will not work in a low block. BTDT... ate the costs...
