Side x Side Comparison

Who makes the best side x side? I"m looking at the john deere 825i Gator & the Yamaha Rhino 700 but Iam open to suggestions. Thanks

I just went thru this decision, it's tuff to get any usable info. I test drove a new gator 825 and Honda big red. And was really disappointed . Not at all what I expected. Looked at a Rhino 700 fi, a world of difference. I have not tried a Polaris. They are all noisy, and a bit clumsy. Rhino has a smaller dump box but is pretty bullit proof, and well made. For some reason Polaris has a big turnover, and seemed to need to be back in the shop often. That could be the operator?? They all are way to expensive for what you get. With proper care all will serve your needs. A re-built open cab jeep 10-15 years old would be half the price. Let us know what you decide.

The Jeep idea is a good one. The older Suzuki Samurai and Geo Tracker, and the little Daihatsu trucks are all cheaper and more useful than the UTV's. Most people could get by with a golf cart.

I have a Kawasaki Tyrex. I wanted a Ranger but when looking at them with my wife, she didn't fit with the seat and foot controls (she's short/small). There is no way to move the seat forward in the ranger. The dealer had the Kawasaki and looked at that, she liked the seating a lot better ("bucket" seats that are adjustable). Ended up finding a used one with 100 miles on that we were able to negotiate a good deal on. Happey with it so far, only thing I don't like is it's pretty hard to keep a steady throttle going over pumps and the exhaust shield rattles at a certain rpm (then goes away).

there are 2 mules. I have a 2012, 4010. Look at what it comes with compared to the rest. I purchased mine new one at the end on 2012, 2013 models were out, at a greatly reduced price from ATV and more, salem, Ill. Joe 618-548-1360 They are a volume dealer. I LOVE MINE. I drove 200 miles to pick it up.

I know a woman who uses my mule more than I do. She loves it to haul wood mulch, her flowers, yard work and to save walking. Not to forget best part, taking the grandkids for a ride on hilly trails, pulling them on sleds in the winter, sitting beside them while they learn how to drive or just crusing in the country.

That's priceless, worth every penny.

George.

Diesel mule If you want a workhorse, just about anything else if you want a toy.

I have looked at the plain jane Kubota diesel 4x4 rtv900 and it seems to be rock solid and better than the Deere. The same priced JD gator had a gas engine too.

I have a Suzuki Sidekick. Swore I would never need a side by side. I the boss thought differently. In January, a diesel 850D Gator showed up. When I got it, it had 500 hours on it. It now has 750. The Sidekick never gets used. The half ton pickup never gets used. I either use the Gator, 1 ton Dodge, or a horse!!

I had a Bobcat, $6500 model. Brakes squeaked terrible, hard shifting and choking. 20 MPH going down the road but 12-15 in field. Good 24 horse Honda and tail gate. Seat would flip when sliding out.

Got a Kobota 900 diesel. Love that power steering and coated bed with lift. Power is great and runs 26 on road and 18 in field. Ground clearance is low and tread is close for 30" rows. It will push my 630 head up a grade into shed easy. Tailgate is awkward to open. Seat is narrow, 3 people??? NO GLOVEBOX! I hit the key with my knee getting out and shut it off sometimes. But it's quality and durable with comfort.

You have to remember the design family history of any of the models. Did it start as a toy/offroad dirt bike alternative? Did it start as a golfcart assembly line compatable light commercial lawn maintenance? Did it start as a industrial/commercial oversize powered wheelbarow for warehouse and construction sites? Did it start as a legal small sized -Kei Class-commercial and farm vehicle in say Japan and got over here with a speed restriction to fit into "implement of husbandry" class? Suzuki and Honda may have more in common with golf carts and recreational ATVs. Kaw Mule has more history as a commercial wheelbarrow,Kei class commercial/farm vehicle in Japan. GATOR was lawn and garden, hobby farm and hunter transport start--and it needs some help(warning/Teasing Alert!) for heavy use, some GATORAID! (warned you). RN.

You can't haul anything much in any of them. Tiny little beds !

Mom got an "old" 2001 Dakota 4x4 pickup for alot less money has more room and an enclosed cab too. A/c even works !

We RTV 900s one with over 3000 hrs and no real problems. Love the hydraulic dump, power steering and ease of operation.

I wouldn't touch a Rhino with a stolen 10 foot pole. The rhino 660 at work is bouncing off the rev limiter just to keep up with the old foreman 400 and 300 ranchers and always broke down. Right now it's ongoing front axleshaft/diff problems. And forget about any slow technical climbs, it's balls-to-the-wall, or you don't get to the top.

The Polaris is the way I'd go. Get the 800, you give up some capability to gain 100 cc and a couple HP with the 900. The 800 also has two places to mount the upper end of the spring for payload vs sport use.

A neighbor had a Big Red last spring. I noticed going by the other day they've now got a jd. If the Big Red has the same gearing as the Rincon (same motor), it really needs a low range to really use it, and I don't think it has one.

The boss has been threatening to get an old Toyota truck and run the exhaust out the front fender, so it doesn't catch the grass on fire, to replace the rhino.

I think if we had a quality unit it would see enough use to justify it, but the boss is very, uh, cost-conscious. The neighbor that had the Big Red runs their unit all over the place, nothing to see them 10 miles out on it checking pivots.

For me, it would have to be Polaris. I have owned three ATV's and two Rangers.

That being said, I always buy where I can get Dealer support. That is the biggest factor in my buying decisions. That plus the fact I won't buy any kind of vehicle from the same people that brought us the attack on Pearl Harbor.
