OT Can I ask you guys what a gun is worth?

My grandpa's old Remington model 12 22 ga. pump rifle? About 100 years old I think. In working order, also have a parts rifle.

I guess the correct term would be 22 caliber not 22 gauge. A gun is just a tool to me, for when something needs to be killed.

Have it appraised by a quality gun shop.

There are sites on the internet, it is a longshot as old as yours is but you might look for something similar.

I'll second what Hoof print said. Condition is critical with old guns and I would certainly get as many opinions as possible. There are several publications of gun values, but they all are based on a grade scale and it takes a knowledgeable person to determine the grade. I would prefer to get as many opinions as I could. If it was your grandfather's, it is impossible to put a number on the sentimental value though. My brother and I have several guns that were our late grandfather's and great-grandfather's. They are nothing special and of no great worth, but mean a lot to us. We use and enjoy them like we would be expected to do.

Actually quite a few model 12s on Gunbroker.com at all sorts of prices. Almost none of them selling. There is a real nice one that has been bid up to $300 but the reserve isn't met (and may not be). Another in poor condition at $200 without a reserve. Others at rediculous prices with no bids. I'm guessing between $150 to $325.

The guys were right on this. Value we be determined by numbers available in todays market and condition.

I have one also. It was my Great Grandfathers who was a blacksmith in ND. Does yours have a hex barrel? My newest copyright on mine is 1917. My G.Granddad built a plate and drilled and tapped for a the tiniest weaver scope I've ever saw. Is yours chambered in 22 rem special? I just found out that 22 wrf are the same.

Octagon Trucker, not hexagon. Octagon has 8 sides, hexagon only 6. Better grab all the 22 WRF you can find, it's difficult to get when you need it IME.

Weaver used to make some little tubed scopes, 5/8" maybe? I still have one kicking around someplace.

Precisely.

What a lot of the gun control nuts don't realize is that on farms and ranches across the country, what with varmints and predators to be controlled, sick and injured livestock to be destroyed, and the annual or semiannual ritual of home butchering a couple of hogs or a beef critter, a firearm is just another tool in the toolbox to be used as the situation dictates.

I have 2 double barrel shot guns my Uncle Roland gave my son and I 45 years ago. Then theres the Mossberg 22 my wife gave me before we were married. She bought a 303 Enfield from Montgomery Ward for 15 bucks and a new Stevens shot gun.The muzzle loading rifle and cap&ball revolver my son bought me when he got his first job. These guns are not for sale at any price.
