New amish farmstead

Took a cycle ride to my old home place this afternoon. An amish neighbor is building this, it looks like 2 houses connected together. I know they have large families but this is something else!

Mybe he's decided to become a Hutterite? They put up big buildings like that in their colonies.

You're lucky, Hutterites bought 10000 acres north of here. I have them for neighbors. Tear out trees, break up unfarmable pasture acres. Nothing Christian about those people!

My guess would be that the house is connected to the horse barn by an enclosed breeze-way. It's possible there are living quarters above the horse barn, maybe for mom and dad. I would also guess the large barn is a dairy barn that is T-shaped with hay storage upstairs. A really nice setup and very expensive.

Have you ever gone to the Old Fashion Farmer's Picnic by Chatt? There's some pretty good tractor pulling there. They just had their 99th reunion. Wonder if they'll do something special next year.

I reconized it right away. The Amish That I deal with his place just about backs up to it, That is on 400S and he is on 350S.. He told me it is an Amish contractor building that. I did not ask what type of construction he is in. Go past it all the time when I go up to Ernest. A lot of time with a load of machinery.

Here's a picture of the Chatt Picnic two years ago. It's always the last Thursday of July. Some nice things about it, no admission charge, there's some shade (thin woods) and the food's priced reasonably.

Where was your old home place? I am from Wapakoneta, Ohio but have been supplying the Amish there with machinery for a few years and I halled a crew from that area years ago.

My home place is on 400 S. and the first place east of 000 or about 3 miles west of this amish place on the same road.

Just where is Chatt located? Been on most of the roads in that area and never heard of it and is not on the county road maps.

Then I know where you are talking about. Just about a mile or two off the road I take to Berne.
