Real horsepower

I finally remembered to take a picture last week of the horse making ice cream at an Amish flea market between Dunnville and Liberty Kentucky. The shaft off the treadmill is running two large ice cream freezers.
We took the wife's sister and brother in law down there three years ago. Sonny was so mesmerized he just stood there for about ten minutes. Couldn't get his attention for anything.

I wonder how much true PTO horsepower he is making? If I remember right those old stationary balers used 4 horses, so one horse must be making quite a few. Like anything else I suppose - it's all in the gearing.

Come to think of it,looks like they've already built a memorial for him for when he drops and slides off that thing.

Could you put a transmission and drive shaft in that treadmill and get up to say, maybe thirty miles an hour with one horsepower?

Neat pics!I saw one from that area running a pretty neat woodsplitter once.I took a couple of pics Tuesday of a 2 horsepower unit that ran a silage chopper and an elevator.

That must have taken some gearing to get it to run a silage chopper.
And some healthier horses than those Amish buggy horses.

SAD that "caution tape" is needed to make it all come about.

Of course, it is common knowledge that common sense died some time ago!

I saw that outfit 2 years ago, looks like one of the same horses but a different or refurbished tred power. Started in Gadsden Alabama this year and only made it to Jamestown Tenn. in 4 full days and we drove by a lot of sales without stopping.

They've yet to build a tractor that will reproduce or repair itself, much less come over and nuzzle you and just stand there with you when you're feeling down. Horses aren't for everyone, and if you're one of those, you'll just never get it.

"There's something about the outside of a horse that's good for the inside of a man."

I want to go down and start at the football field in Gadsden one of these years. As cool as it was, this probably would have been the year to do it. We went from Crossville Tn to Lawereneburg Ky this year. I was in so much need of a vacation that we rented a cabin on the lake for 4 nights and just hung out there as much as we could.

No an average sized horse will make about 1 hp on average. The old balers ran on 4 hp, note they didn't make tight bales or many per hour! Even a brand new JD 348 can run on about 10 hp if run stationary.
