ferguson to30

Would appreciate any opinions on a Ferguson to30 tractor. I have a chance to buy one fully restored and am trying to make up my mind. Thanks

Suggest you leave it alone. I believe they were made in France, parts are scarce and expensive in Europe, tractor is not very good. Just my 2 cents worth ( is that the right phrase? ) Phil

TO230 Ferguson is a very reliable tractor, easy to get parts for.TE Fergusons are English made and parts are alittle harder to get. If its a good one dont be afraid of it. Run a 7ft finish mower with mine every week. Superior to N model Fords.

It all depends on what you want to do with the tractor after you get it. If you are wanting to do serious work then I would move up to the later MF 35 or MF 135 if you want MF brand.

The TO30 does not have live hydraulics or PTO. The later MF 35 and MF 135 machines at least had live PTO and hydraulics. They are about the same size. Just cost a little more to buy.

The TO30 was built in the USA and the TE30 was built in England. Very little difference between the two. Parts are not hard to find for either of them. Many after market suppliers too.

I have a to-30 and it is my do-all tractor, it does EVERYTHING I could ever ask it to do. I run a 6 foot brush hog, post hole digger, and it doesn't even know when it is pulling a two bottom plow. :) I think that they are fantastic, simple, and VERY easy to work on, and parts are available. I also agree with the above statement that they are " superior to the ford N series." Good luck! Bryce

Sorry Phil, but you have got it wrong. It was the FF30 (Ferguson France) that was made in France....TE=tractors England and TO= tractors overseas.
All good reliable basic tractors with the majority of the main parts being common.....main difference is the electrics are different on each model as they were sourced locally to the factory the tractors were built in.

Now I'm curious as I was always told the TO 30s were about the same as an 8N.
Tractor Data says they have 4 or 5 more hp and they weigh a little more than an 8N but without live hyds or pto what makes them a better machine?

The Ferguson TO 20 and 30 have overhead valve Continental engines compared to the flatheads in the N tractors. We have a 20, a 30 and an 8N. They are similar tractors in size and weight. The height control on the 3pt works better on the 8Ns, but I like the engines in the Fergusons.

I have a TO30 I love. It's true that live hydraulics and PTO would make them even better, but for what I do I can get along without either.

They are easy to work on, and parts are readily available.

I use mine with a 5' mower, a blade for dirt or snow, a plow, a harrow, pulling a trailer, and I use a carry-all to move whatever else needs hauled around the place.

The lack of factory position control for the three-point can be an issue. But there are instructions out there for a really simple adaption for excellent position control.

It all depends on what you want, what you need, what the price is, how much you have to spend, and what happens to be available when you are in the market.
