Spindle threads

On my 3715 bushhog some of my spindles have spindle threads that are bad. I do not want to buy new spindles as it would be very costly. Is there a way to fix these spindles. Seems like someone use to make a special spindle nut. Toby

Cleaning the threads with a Die of the exact size and thread pitch is first. Then purchase a split nut that has a pinch bolt to assure it is clamped to the threads. I do not know where to find the size you need, but it could also be made. by a machinest or welded up from a grade 8 nut and a cross bolt to tighten. I would not do this on a road vehicle, but it will be fine if kept under observation. (it may take a different dust cover or? to seal it up) rethreading to a smaller size (or metric just a little smaller is also OK. Jim

Wheel spindles or spindles involved in keeping the swinging blades from killing someone?

If wheel spindles, they are likely a common thread, or if more like that on a vehicle, Harbor Freight has "spindle thread chasers" pretty reasonable. I have a set I bought a couple of years back. Don't know the sizes, though, offhand.

OOOPPPSSS... Just went on Harbor Freight's site and can't find the tool set... MAY have been discontinued!

Check with a local Ford New Holland dealer. Ford used to use those special locking nuts on there tractors.
